May be we are, but we should be, that's the bitter truth :-[. Since the beginning of the school year I have received at least  five safety messages from my son's school about students from near by schools, who are being chased or harassed by other teens or even adults  >:(, and those students are mostly in secondary schools  :(. put in your mind I do not live in a bad neighbourhood, it is an average area. 
Every time I want to give up on DC, it manages to bring me back, it brings me back feelings I know that I will never ever feel or live again.

I always went to school alone - which was logical, as my school was 15km away and I had to go by bus. Said bus was actually public transport, but almost everyone using it was a schoolchild as well, so...
But to get to the bus, I had to walk 1km, at 7:00 in the morning. And I did so alone.
