Yeah, the fact that 1,003 is already out and File 1,004 is not is why it seems to me that 1,005 will be part of this case. Thus, for the first time in 6 years (Eye for an Eye/Design of Poison and Mirage – 781–786), it seems we're going to get a case longer than 5 Files.
Spoiler:
...if you were meaning that the Kyoto Trip is the first 6 File case that we've had since EYE, then yes, that would be correct
Spoiler:
Yep, but I didn't word it as well as I should have, and, of course, the two 7 file cases of 2012 just had to slip my mind, in the moment of me making that post... :-[

So allow me to make an amendment to my statement, Mr. Checker—for the first time in just under 5 years, it seems we're going to get a case longer than 5 files.

If we could fly out of that window hand in hand, hover over this great city, gently remove the roofs, and and peep in at the queer things which are going on, the strange coincidences, the plannings, the cross-purposes, the wonderful chains of events, working through generations, and leading to the most outre results, it would make all fiction with its conventionalities and foreseen conclusions most stale and unprofitable.”

I guess it'll depend whether he'll reach a threshold where the manga readers will at least be able to piece things together—for those of them who want to do so, that is.

Spoiler:
Japanese manga readers wouldn't need an explanation. They know that Kazuha is written as japanese leaf (和葉) and Momiji as autumn leaf (紅葉) and that since happa (葉っぱ) is an informal way to say "leaf", Momiji using it to call Kazuha, especially with the -chan honorific, means she's basically trying to assess her superiority over her.

I think they don't mean the meaning of the nickname itself but if that originated on the movie does that make the movie canon.
Spoiler:
IMO it's just a port-over from the movie but here we assume that Kazuha and Heiji have met Momiji before off-screen in the manga and Momiji at some point began to call Kazuha like that, dropped it and but now's resumed it.

Right, that would be fine with no explanation. And it's a safe bet that the two of them being Karuta players will eventually come up, maybe even in the very next case that has them in it.

Spoiler:
With Movie 21, Gosho's walking the narrowest tightrope he ever has, in terms of "just how canon is the movie?" Cause this Soliloquy implies that the current case takes place after Movie 21 and the post-credits scene where Momiji actually addresses Kazuha by her name. But, since Gosho's still walking that tightrope, the manga canon explanation, in broad terms, is just as you say. As for the specifics... that's what this tightrope's all about—so heavily implying the canonicity of Movie 21's events, but never confirming it. That way, he can just have people fill in blanks—after all, he likely doesn't see a need for a radical change from Movie 21, in terms of how they met in the manga.

Sherry's soliloquies have had out-of-manga-universe jokes before. Just because this one is tailored to those who saw this movie, doesn't make it any different or special. Gosho helped make the movie, and knew the ending ages ago. Its Gosho's joke for those who have seen the movie and it doesn't effect the main story.

I don't understand this tightrope concept you mention above DCU. "just how canon is this movie?" , Its not canon. Gosho started off this year by saying that the movies aren't canon. The manga version and movie version of Momiji don't have the exact same knowledge. Its just essentially Gosho introducing a movie character concept into the manga, its just Gosho knew about Momiji way before us and introduced her before the actual release of the movie in order for fans to understand the concept for the movie ahead of time. Its movie advertisement plus a new running romance subplot that he can use to spread the actual plot stuff even further.
I hope that I can find someway to contribute to the community even if it's just random crack theories and looking things up for people who can't find the information they need.

Basically—as of right now—the way that Momiji and Kazuha met in Movie 21 and became Karuta rivals will be conceptually identical to the as of yet unseen manga meeting between them. Gosho won't need to dream up a different concept for how they met—he can just adjust some details so it won't be exactly the same as the movie. Basically, Movie 21 is the closest to manga canon that a DC movie has come, so far—but, as you say, it still is non-canon, because the specific details in the movie (and in this context, by "the details," I mean the details involved in Momiji's and Kazuha's meeting) will be different from the specific details of the manga.

Translation of AC hints (September 24)
Spoiler:
Pic 1:"I've drawn the teaser of the next movie!"
Pic 2:"Feels green and mysterious!"
Pic 3:"The title is [0"0no0.000n]!"
Pic 4:"Can you guess it?"

Note: the " is a japanese mark to indicate whether a kana has alternate spelling (ze (ゼ) instead of se) and the dot is to indicate a small kana next to another kana (sho (ショ) instead of shi). "no" (の) indicates adjective or posession.

Several Japanese fans suggest [ゼロのショーダウン], Zero no shoudaun, Zero's Showdown.

My guess is "The Nightmare of Tokyo's Street".
My dad’s a soldier blue I’ll be a soldier, too
When I grow older you will see me rescue you
I’ll teach you this old song so you can sing along
When I am dead and gone the day won’t be so long.
