He always says the same (tsugi no jiken ga...), so I think is fair to think it was meant to mean jiken.

Okita, who is appearing in this chapter. Apparently he is a character in Kenyū Densetsu Yaiba, that was published between 1988 and 1993 (ended a year before DC started), so he is like a representation of his drawing career.
This is why he says "people who know and who don't", because it is highly improbable that the common readers of DC know about this (or even remember him from his first appearence in file 314).

I noticed after you pointed out but "shiken" itself doesn't make much sense. It's pretty probable he did a typo and forgot to convert "shi" to "ji".

Also, like RucyL says, he always says "the next case" so I went with what he's been saying insofar.

You make very good points as well, RucyL. It makes plenty of sense.

It's a bit hard to express in English but Heiji is using an atypical expression which literally means "thankful mountain little cuckoo" but according to Japanese dictionaries it's a means to express thanks.

I see many people excited and looking forward to File 1000 because of the possibility of Shinichi's appearance. Unfortunately, Gosho used to disappoint his fans so I will not be surprised if Shinichi in fact just kaito kid disguised himself as Shinichi. But, If he is actually appearing then I hope there is something related to investigating RUM rather than caught by Ran or fooling Ran. If he is to be unmasked by someone then I wish is it from the police HQ, FBI, RUMI or Mary. Why from the police HQ? Because this could help him with a wider sources for his investigations by relying on a close ally like Takagi, Sato or even Kuroda if he's not RUM because Conan seems to rely very much on Heiji and trust him over even the FBI.

You wouldn't be surprised about something that literally has never happened in the manga before, where it is not even confirmed that Kaito knows Conan's identity or even the name Shinichi Kudo? Boy, I'd sure be surprised if Gosho suddenly whips out this tired plot point from the movies for the Nr. 1000 of his most successful series for no reason. Not in a good way, mind you, but surprised no less.

What I meant by saying such a thing is that fans are looking forward for their own wishful story on the Shinichi appearance. Some people for example wish that Ran finds out about Conan's real identity. But because of Gosho's history with consistently teasing fans, there is high possibility that they are going to be disappointed. For my selfishness and greed, I wish File 1000 to be somehow related to RUM rather than a side story/case. But as you guys said this is unlikely and is not going to happen.

This is what I meant by my previous post but I did make a mistake with Kaito Kid and Shinichi.
