Hype TMS and everything! (Please Read!: kkslider's dumb rant)

Post by kkslider5552000 »

I couldn't think of a better title that could grab people, but I just feel like getting this off my chest, I suppose you would say. I'm not even sure if what I'm writing is anything other than preaching to the choir, but oh well.

I was going to post this rant, or this part of it until this poorly thought out paragraph ends, but decided it didn't matter to anyone other than maybe people here. I had briefly mentioned I watched Movie 16 and then...

Unfortunately because the main guys are no longer subbing episodes because of real life and not wanting to get in trouble with TMS, one dude and a very small (and apparently dying if what I've read recently is any indication) team has been working on subbing my favorite anime series and can't accomplish enough. It's just really sad for me, especially since the main team single handedly released everything from 2008 through the middle of this year but now the main series is being subbed at a snail's pace (and I feel bad for the guy in charge of that) unless I want to watch really lame speedsubs. It especially sucks since the anime itself was getting interesting for the first time in quite a while. I mean worse comes to worse I could just switch to the manga but I've spent so much of my free time on the anime it'd just be a waste to not see that version through to the end. It's probably not worth complaining about since the anime is, barring filler, as close to a 1 to 1 adaptation as it gets but I'm gonna stick with the anime for as long as I possibly can. And all of this had happened after every single episode of this mammoth-sized series had finally been subbed, we were finally caught up with everything and now less than 6 months it's like it doesn't matter.

After this I stopped and decided to post it here instead for whatever reason. And like I'm genuinely conflicted with the simple question "what's the point?" I'm up at 11 on Christmas Eve complaining about what happened to fansubs for a japanese detective anime. It's all silly and it doesn't matter...who cares really? And even if it did, again the manga version makes the anime version mostly pointless beyond its notable success in Japan and some praise-worthy audio. But, for once, I'm going to swallow any self-awareness or shame or ironic humor or anything of the sort. And trust me, this is humiliating to me in some way.

This anime is a part of my life that, beyond absolutely necessary circumstances (what would those even be?), I have no intention to ever give up (barring it reaching the end of course and even then, ZOMG FUTURE REWATCH!). Beyond that, I absolutely refuse to give up on the series actually being successful in some form in North America someday. I have suggested the series (to at least try out since suggesting they watch a 600+ episode series RIGHT NOW is...uh...) to quite a few people, one of which at least started reading the manga. If I have to keep up this reasonable amount of recommending the series throughout the rest of my life for it to be successful, fine. If there's any series out there that deserves to succeed where ever it goes, it's this one. The fact that the series was cancelled on AS, is, and shall always be unacceptable to me. I could be wrong, I think people here at least understand this, even if sure it will vary wildly how much or little they agree with me or think similarly.

This series, for english speaking fans, should matter more than it does. Beyond that, this community deserves to be more popular than it is. I've been on many silly internet forums in the past, but this is the best I've ever been apart of. But I'm worried about its future. I would think this community would last until at least the end of the series but I've seen a number of people drop the series and...*sigh* Who knows?

On a somewhat less serious note, I can't get why people would drop this series after so long. I mean if it was like...I dunno...the Simpsons that's one thing but I would think for this series, anyone would want to know how it ends. If you spend the absurd amount of time on the internet for a detective anime, I don't see how beyond unforeseen circumstance you can just be like "eh, I'm done with this." I mean I understand and yet I...don't. It's odd, I don't pretend to fully comprehend what I mean by that either. Or like just leaving the fan communities...like is posting on a message board once in a blue moon so difficult for people who are busy? I dunno...

so...Merry Christmas!!! :DDDDDDDDDDD

(yeah, that was kinda depressing, in more ways than one, I'm sorry)

Agreed.  You've invested that much in it, why not just stick it out?

Because wasting your life watching something you don't enjoy with no end in sight is what idiots do :P

well duh, obviously. I just think most people who would just be like "ok, I have to see how this ends so that time doesn't feel like a complete waste". You know, just for the sake of closure.

And I think anyone who has given up on the series who liked it enough originally to watch like a lot of it probably stopped out of frustration and impatience with the series more than anything. Which is certainly understandable, the Bourbon arc has been twice as long than necessary even by this series' own standards, and before last year the AOs had become often painful to sit through and even the manga cases occasionally reeked of mediocrity.

But you enjoyed it at some point, so it's not a complete waste.
