on the other hand, the conclusion leaves me wondering whether or not Gosho's gonna trail off from the plot a bit more while Amuro is busy with his investigations

I personally feel the status quo is too broken right now and can't go back to normal cases right away. It's just hard to imagine that Okiya, Amoru, Sera and Haibara will all act totally normally in the next file.

Who knows? Maybe there will be a cooldown "denouement" period while Amuro and Sera begin poking around Akai's death's case. I seriously expect the FBI Japanese cell to become involved in the Bourbon arc now.

...Hold on. You know who else can become entangled in this? DETECTIVE TAKAGI. He's at 2 degrees of separation from Bourbon (through Date), and he unknowingly became an accomplice in hiding Akai's death. I'm really expecting Detective Takagi to become a strong key player in this arc.

(Which would mean an originally anime-exclusive character would be getting a promotion to canon main. That'd be awesome.)

Wow, Kaito KID got a really big role there. And I really love that nothing really ever comes out of the blue -- the characters' abilities are well-documented and, like an earlier poster said, it's really awesome that all three current masters of disguise in the Conan world were in attendance.

Amuro and Sera poking around would be interesting to see. At this point, however, I want to see Haibara confront Okiya and Conan, now that she knows they're teamed up -- and never told her.

I love how it isn't absolutely explicit but still fairly obvious who Okiya really is.

I'm actually curious what Conan original plan. Since he had just met Kid in the train.

As I said on the other topic, Kid is predictable. He always scouts the location of his next trick beforehand, and his methods are more about efficiency than secrecy.

And I don't think they had no plan B. Had either Haibara or Kid refused to play their part, then they could change the tune accordingly. The most obvious possible change would be to have Yukiko not taunt Vermouth and instead disguise as Shiho, while Haibara got knocked out or otherwise hidden by force by Conan/Okiya. Less clean and less foolproof, but still doable.

i enjoyed the Kid appearance, even if he doesn't continue being mixed up in the plot (and I guess if they continue relying on him there is no longer a surprise element... especially since Vermouth will be more on guard now). he considers Conan being in his debt now, so when Magic Kaito continues, we might see Conan/Shinichi appear and give HIM a helping hand with HIS mysterious criminal org hahaha. anyway, Yukiko would also be interested in finding the guys who made Kaito's dad disappear!

So it looks certain now that Okiya is Akai, although we have yet to have the confrontation/resolution between Akai and Ai, and Akai and Sera, and Akai and Amuro. The latter two should take a while since Sera and Amuro will still investigate further but since Ai is more or less clued in, hopefully we get to see their confrontation within the next few files...

Also, Conan knows that Amuro is Bourbon. As far as Amuro knows, he has only revealed his codename to Kid disguised as Sherry... but he would be curious to know who got the magician to get involved. Maybe he would suspect Kogoro? In that case he would stop hanging around the detective agency.. maybe he would give an excuse to disappear, and continue his investigations covertly. In that way, Gosho can afford to have some non-plot cases for a while, with the plot being discussed in the background by the main characters...

Why does Vermouth hate Sherry so much? despite her promise to Conan, she still arranged things so that it is only Sherry who dies, while everyone else's safety is ensured. she can't be just evil since she deviated from Gin's plan in a way that protected the kids and her old friend Yukiko (and conveniently, herself). is it to do with the APTX?

And what does that computer program have to do with the APTX?

1.) Akai dates with Shinichi's Mom. And that in SHINICHI's house o_o [well this would explain Yusaku = Anokata; j/k]

2.) I was so sure that it will come to a showdown between Akai and Bourbon and that the latter is going to die. Now that he's still alive, it's going to be even more interesting.

3.) And I was also pretty sure that Ran was finally going to play a major role in this whole BO story. I mean, how long can Shinichi hide that?

4.) C'mon: Kaito/Shinichi/Yukiko/Sera/Akai/Haibara ... vs. Vermouth and Bourbon. Way too unfair! But epic chapter is epic!

5.) I think the most interesting thing about this chapter was the conversation between Yukiko and Vermouth at the beginning. The rest was more or less already predicted.
