What video games are you currently playing?

I'm only interested in two announcements.  Nintendo announcing Fire Emblem and a new 3DS model, which may make me interested enough to buy one, and Namco Bandai announcing Tales of Xillia for the US/UK.  Anything else and I couldn't really give a damn.

*shrug*  Japan makes games I like.  America makes shooters, which I don't like, and "western rpgs", which I don't like with the exception of Skyrim.  And of the games in Japan that have any semblance of a chance of coming out here, they just both happen to be RPGs.  Any other games I'd be interested in, Japan has to announce, not America.

I take that back, there's a third.  Namco Bandai could announce a localization for Digimon World Re:Digitize and I'd be ecstatic.

I feel like a lot of JRPGs are just too similar, when you played one you played them all.  The same could be said about shooters, but, when you play those elite shooter games made from great developers (Cod4, HL2) it's just like another world.  I don't really get that from JRPGs.  I'm just like "cool, Tidus is laughing really stupidly. alright".  Or "huh, that black dude got a baby chicken in his afro. Aight.  Annoying Japanese Australian chick. hmmm."  I'm also not too fond of that turn based style gameplay, it just feels artificial and not in the flow - even though I like Pokemon gameplay though.

English dubs of JRPGs suck a majority of the time. The only thing I've seen that I'm definitely getting so far is the new God of War and MGS.

1. Final Fantasy X is a terrible example of a good game, people who like it are terrible. I can name countless games factually better than it, and far less annoying.
2. Even most JRPGs nowadays don't have turn based combat, or at least not remotely traditional turn based combat.

You should give Chrono Trigger a try, if nothing else. My brother doesn't even care about JRPGs and has fairly similar tastes as you, and he really liked Chrono Trigger.

Rising? Meh...Not a big fan of Platinum Games, and the game looks a catastrophe to the MGS franchise...where's the stealth?  Where's that vintage Kojima development?  It looks bad - something MGS always thrives on is story and it looks like Rising's plot is some second-rate hashed up crap.

I think I tried Chrono Trigger on the DS a while back, but the rom was buggy and the game froze on me and I just stopped playing.  It was alright..I didn't really do anything in the game yet, messed around in some town faire and then i started time travelling.  I dunno, I didn't think much of it - basically it was just like "hmm, DBZ time travelers, okay".  Then again I barely played any of it - if I want to get into the JRPG world though I'd rather play something more modern.

I guess I kinda liked Valkyria Chronicles, and I think that new Fire Emblem game on 3ds looks amazing, if those count as JRPGs.

Sounds like someone needs to put down the Final Fantasy and pick up some Tales Of games.  Best combat systems in the jrpg market, in my opinion.  The stories are usually rather blah, but the character interaction makes up for that ten-fold, and like I said... combat system.  Love it.

I'd call Fire Emblem more of a S(J)RPG than a JRPG.  Not sure how I'd classify Valkyria Chronicles.  I don't want to say strategy, since it's about as strategic as a Sonic the Hedgehog game despite its setting, but it's a tiny bit more strategic than your average JRPG.

Unlike last year, it seems I'm not the only one annoyed that the great games Nintendo has are being ignored for overrated crap. Seriously, they just announced a crossover of Warioware and Game and Watch. What? Where was that?

Nintendo's press conference was pretty meh, a bunch of lame 3rd party games for the most part, only good parts were pikmin 3 and mario, i don't know why they closed with nintendo land and tried to push it like it was another smash bros or something, should've just closed with mario, also the people bitching about there not being a new zelda can die

Out of the big 3, sony wins, but including everyone else, ubisoft wins

Well, Namco Bandai didn't announce Tales Of, but the UK PR division announced they'd have a "full lineup of games" to announce at the end of the month.  Rejoice!

Ubisoft delivered, Sony gets some credibility with some new IP and exclusives, but seriously, stop wasting my time with that damn Harry Potter Move game for like 30 minutes.  Also, typical Sony with the blah blah blah numbers + pushing Vita.

EA, shit.  Microsoft, shit but a little bit better than last year.  Nintendo, shit.  Cool Pikmin for the Nintendo fans, but come on - wheres that big announcement for the Wii U, that's going to tip the scale for people who AREN'T huge Nintendo fans?

Wish E3 was more catered to consumers than investors like a long time ago.
