Officials: Boston Marathon bombs kill 2, hurt dozens
Two killed in bomb blasts near finish line of Boston Marathon, Boston police say. Area hospitals say at least 69 are injured; Boston Globe reports more than 100 injured.
Two explosions happened at about 2:50 p.m., more than two hours after the first of the race's nearly 27,000 runners had crossed the finish line.
Boston.com journalist reports "blood everywhere," people missing limbs.
Race called off; Red Cross and Google set up websites to help people find loved ones in the area

[Update, 5:35 p.m. ET] Google has established a person-finder related to the Boston bombings. People who are looking for someone or have information about someone can make reports there.

[Update, 5:31 p.m. ET] Boston police now appear to be backing away from their commissioner's earlier statement that a third incident – at the JFK Library 5 miles from the finish line - might have been related to the Boston Marathon blasts.

Most of my friends here are really distressed about all of this.

Here's footage from the first explosion.

I'm not comfortable permitting sharing of graphic images, especially exploitative ones that don't further discourse on an issue and the like.

Still no leads on the culprit right?

there have been "leads" since it happened, but as far as legitimate reason to believe the actual person is closer to being caught, nah.

Apparently at least one suspect has been detained, and they're almost sure more than one person was involved (which seems likely to me).

After seeing all of the nonsensical and clearly false reporting going on, the FBI issued a brief, but succinct, statement expressing exactly what I was saying yesterday:
The FBI wrote:Contrary to widespread reporting, no arrest has been made in connection with the Boston Marathon attack. Over the past day and a half, there have been a number of press reports based on information from unofficial sources that has been inaccurate. Since these stories often have unintended consequences, we ask the media, particularly at this early stage of the investigation, to exercise caution and attempt to verify information through appropriate official channels before reporting.
What's more, FOX, NBC, CNN, and at least six international outlets have reported in depth the exact details of exactly what you need to remake the same bombs. I'm involved in the criminal field, and even I wasn't privy to the sorts of details they are offering now.

Even beyond that, they speak with professionals who verify how "simple" and easy it is to make the exact bomb that has just gotten all of this media attention and hurt so many people. In this world of everything being instantly accessible via Google, giving the exact name to an English article written by Al Qaeda that (in different terms) is titled: "This is the Way to Make Dangerous Explosives without Leaving Home", is an incredibly dangerous and irresponsible precedent to set. Al Qaeda has publicized such things in their international newsletters and websites, deliberately in English, in order to inspire jihad and radical guerrilla warfare in western countries (a stated goal, not an assumed one).

From this one article on CNN's website, you can learn:
- Exactly how to store the bomb along with alternate, secondary options
- Exactly what household components can be used
- Exactly which compounds and household solutions to use to combust the bomb
- Exactly how to detonate the bomb
- Exactly what to Google to be taken directly to Al Qaeda's English recipe for bombmaking ALONG WITH EXCERPTS FROM THE GUIDE
- Exactly what options you have in constructing the bomb should you be short on supplies
- Exactly what to include to make the crude bomb even more effective

Unstable people that revel in tragedy pornography such as what CNN and every other news outlet reports don't even have to make an effort to replicate what the person responsible for this incident did--all they have to do is turn on their TV, or log onto their computer and visit any of the world's most visited websites.

Wow, that's completely stupid. Can we like, not tell people how to make bombs just for the sake of "it's so easy, you can do it at home!"?

There is a ton of information about the bombing in this series of reddit threads. It essentially brings together all of the news stories in one place as they happen, the main post has a list of information and the source of that information. Apparently all of the victims who made it to the hospital are expected to live or are at least making progress, which is amazing. Article: http://bigstory.ap.org/article/trauma-d ... uries-legs
