movie script, because that one actually involves people putting additional money towards your product, there's publishers for pretty bottom-tier books

Getting your script published. It's close to impossible. Very often, if you pitch a script to a studio and they like it, they like it because it shows you can write. Rather than shooting the script, they'll want to hire you to write scripts of their choosing. Studios normally go to writers with "We want to shoot this movie, write it" rather than "we want to shoot a movie, whatcha got?"
