I'd like to think that a trilogy should be enough (as long as you throw away a bunch of characters, relationships and focus mainly on the B.O.), but since DC isn't over yet, and the plot keeps on going, I'll go with 5.

Even if you focused only on the BO-related plots, I think it would still take more than 10 movies...

I think if you seriously condensed it down to plotplotplot, you could get a trilogy. A Peter Jackson trilogy of 3-hour movies, maybe, but a trilogy.

It would have to be seriously condensed.

If you want to do the series justice without leaving out major plot developments, I think it would take more than ten.  This would include all the police stuff, too.

tough question since there's no end in sight, but if the irrelevant stuff, aka 95% of the show, was removed, you could probably get it into around 10

You'd have to start by removing the actual mystery and make it more of an action plot (with BO-related stuff and APTX stuff).
Some of the episodes that are almost entirely plots are already movie-length (Ep 129 for example). Others are just separated into many segments (Desperate revival, Clash of Red and Black (which obviously can be reduced since most of it is suspense). So I'm going to say 5+ (so 5 with the current plot stuff).

I actually do say you could condense to a 3 or 4 structure.

6, I'd say:
#1 up to Desperate Revival (very few plot stuff back then)
#2 up to ep. 345 (still not that much plot stuff)
#3 up to ep. 425
#4 up to Clash of Red and Black
#5 up to London
#6 up to manga-readers-know-what-I-mean :x
