Barring that, I want any ending.  Seriously.  Even if it's just "oh, this was all just a really awful dream".  I love this series, but it definitely deserves to have a proper ending.

There are ways to accomplish a twist ending without evoking "it never actually happened." IMO, the "it was just a dream" scenario is a cop-out and a sign of being too lazy to write a real ending.

Ran will get get murdered and sera and a bunch of other random teens wannabe detectives running around the crime scene asking all sorts of questions while shinichi see's them degrading the whole situation by considering it just a "game to stimulates their minds", this acts like a mirror to shinichi as he realizes how other people felt when he was stimulating his mind using the tragedies of others.

Shinichi solves the crime until he notices that the conclusive proof has been accidently  destroyed by these random wannabe's detective, he then leaves the profession forever.
