Random Poll of the Day! (740)
Speaking of languages, what's a better way to write the poll's question (if there is)?
Anyway, I think Hebrew is a 4
The letters aren't used in any other current spoken language.
The only place to truly get used to it is in a tiny country in the Middle East
The grammar and rules are wacky and weird, for westerners especially.

Re: Random Poll of the Day! (740)
Honestly, a lot of this is subjective.
If you're learning English coming from a Latin-based language, it's probably easier than if you're learning English from a language like, say, Chinese. And if we're talking just learning the basics vs. having a deep understanding of the language, that's different too.

Re: Random Poll of the Day! (740)
I'm saying three, as English is quite commonly used throughout the world (hence immersion is easier), but there are too many random/obscure grammar rules to learn it easily. Any other language I've done any studying in (and there are a few of those, though minimal in all but French), the structure is much easier for me to learn since there aren't so many instances where grammar rules are broken.

I am thinking 5 because, I heard that to foreigners learning Korean is really difficult for them because we have many different word for a word ( like for Father we would have at least 3 or 4 word discribing it).

I'd say three, at least to learn to speak it properly as there are some things that just doesn't make sense.

Probably 3, but that's always a subjective thing anyway.

Re: Random Poll of the Day! (740)
After trying to teach it for four months, I'm going to put English at 5. Every time I tried to teach my class a linguistic rule, I'd immediately discover that NOTHING keeps to it.
"Miss, how do you past tense drive? Drived?"
"Um, no..."
"Miss, how do you past tense sing? Singed? No, Song?"
"Um, no... sang..."
HOW DO YOU TENSE IN ENGLISH.

I know that some of my blood relatives, that choose german as a foreign language changed to french later on and said that it was easier then.
So I voted 4.

Didn't think of that. But this language is declining and is only used in Ashkenazi religious circles. The language is like a mix between Hebrew and German, and while Yiddish has the Hebrew Alphabet, the words and grammar are taken mostly from German (though obviously there's a difference)Dus wrote:What about Yiddish?Kor wrote: The letters aren't used in any other current spoken language.

Depends.
If you know Spanish, a 1. The hardest part, Switching the vowel sounds, which can get confusing.
Anyone else, a 3 it's not too hard but the accents can really get to you. Then again, I speak/read better than I write, since I've never actually learned proper Portuguese.

I've noticed it's rather hard for people talking English to learn how to pronounce words

Re: Random Poll of the Day! (740)
3, Spanish and Catalan are pretty easy if your first language is Latin-based, but I think sometimes it can be a bit difficult to learn the verb tenses, because for example I think English is more simple in this matter. But they aren't really difficult languages, overall.
