But really, I play a lot more than just RPGs, and turn-based strategy games are my second favorite (with "beat 'em up" being third )

I believe the term you're looking for if you're referring to Mario is "platformer"

action RPG, I've always been a fan of the "beat your head against a wall enough and you will be able to pass the challenge" school of thought

platformers are a close second though.

I believe the term you're looking for if you're referring to Mario is "platformer"

Checked out wiki. Seems you say "platform" in english, while in german you use the the term "Jump 'n' run" more often and is uncommon in english XD
