Word Derivations

Postby Moriarty » November 22nd, 2010, 12:33 am

While researching immortality, I came across the word "apoptosis", which means programmed cell death.

I wonder if that has anything to do with the name for the apotoxin?

If anyone else has any such words feel free to share....

I'm fairly certain Ai mentioned apoptosis when she was first telling Kudo about the poison.

yep, that is indeed the reason that it's named APTX. From a DC wiki:

APTX is an abbreviation of "Apoptoxin," and, as the name implies, it involves the activation of uncontrolled apoptosis which causes death by the destruction of cells. In addition, it can also activate telomerase. The original purpose of the compound, as hinted by Haibara herself, is "to raise the dead", indicating an intent to control biological life.[1]
