And my response would generally be the same as what most people have posted here... I'd be sad no matter what, but how upset I get depends on who it is.

maybe they say something like "I might be murdered by bees" and then stop posting, or maybe there's a story in the news about a communist ninja dying on an assassination attempt mission.

But yeah, in many cases you may not know, though on another forum I go to there've been a few dead posters found because people go "I wonder where X went" and then they internet detective things and find out, but that's a much larger place so it's more likely to happen.

Don't worry Ako-chan, I won't let the bees get you unless I send them after you myself. ...and if a certain communist ninja died during an assassination attempt and I knew about it, you guys wouldn't have to find out from the news.

The only time I've ever known someone online died, it was because they had left a note with their family saying that if something ever happened to them, to let certain people know, and I was one of those people. Their cousin got in touch with me when she was hospitalized, and then kept me updated on everything. But that was a rare exception, so. I don't think stuff like that happens very often.

For a moment I thought someone died, thus leading to this topic. Then again, there was an exclamation point, indicating a possible absence of grief.

But going back to the topic. Yes, I would definitely be saddened to know that someone in this forum passed away. In a way, I've become a member of this community already, though not a very active one. As such, knowing that one of my fellow members is gone really saddens me. Even if the member had made me upset at certain times, it's still sad to know that someone has died.

i'm sorry.. but this is not the first time it happens to me....

based on my experience in the Forum.chip.co.id... the  news of some member who pass away will reach because we usually know some member in real life (that is the reason why real life gathering is importance)

so if someone pass away... her/his family contact one of the friends on his/her phone and if it reach any forum member.. then the whole forum will know...

and based on this... me and baka1412 is already exchanging phone numbers... so we will inform one and another.... if anything happens....

and it helps to put all your forum address and password in your dying will!!!
