No, it does mean they're wrong. If you try to say North and South America are one continent just because they're connected on a map, then as Abs said you'd have Eurasia. In fact, add Africa to that, so it'd be Erasifica. Japan, England, and Iceland would then be their own continents, as would Hawaii.
I believe it's called Afro-Eurasia (at least according to wiki).

yes, it should be acording to the person who teaches it or maybe now in modern times there are 2 americas

This discussion kinda reminds me the discussions in wiki about Israel/Jerusalem.
Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, but many (if not all) countries don't recognize it like that and instead decide that Tel-Aviv is the capital. So there are so many people asking to edit the Jerusalem article to say that it is not the capital of Israel just because the majority of countries don't say it is.
Anyway regarding this matter, there are two Americas. This is what I was taught, this is what it says in my books, and I'm pretty sure this is what most americans or westerns will also say.
