Ah.  I'm going to bet that the 1 Filipino comes out of this unscathed.  Actually I guess he is the driver in handcuffs?

Okay, so a while ago the driver escaped, saying that everyone will die.

Then shots were heard...

And the police broke the glass... without going in.

Then they tied a rope to a car and the door, trying to pull open the door, but failed.

So they opened the "Safety Door" located on the back of the bus... which was right there, clear as day, but noooo, they never opened it till all else failed. Clever, aren't they.

A policeman went in through that door, but then shots were heard again, and the policeman backed out hurriedly.

And then more shots were heard, and bullet holes were seen next to a window seat.... Headshot. I think. Though I hope not.

After a while.... a body was found, near the door of the bus. D: He was carried away by the police.

Then the police shot the man.... WTF?

And then 5 people were saved! (sry, in that previous post, not 5 people, but 3 people. Woops.)

...Now the news is summarizing this while the others are saved. Or maybe they're dead; I don't know.

..........sigh.

Well, that's a bit different... at least on the hostage part. But maybe it's because it's Hong Kong news; the names of the six HK citizens who were freed were shown on the news.

PFFFT, SOME POLICEMEN THEY ARE.

http://hk.news.yahoo.com/article/100823/4/juc4.html

Basically it says:

Philippines Police Have Retreated From Bus

After a rumor that all passengers on the bus had been killed, the police have went in the bus several times, only to come out again every time. After that, someone shot at the back of the bus, and the police have already retreated from the bus.

....

WTF?

The chronology of that CNN article is insanely confusing.  That's breaking news for you, I guess.

Confusing indeed. I had no idea what it said until I read it a second time.

Yeah, it doesn't make things easy to understand when it's written that "at least two of the hostages were killed" and then later in the article "hostages appeared calm but confused"

You are calm and confused after two of your tour party have been shot dead?

The only people who were not safe were from Hong Kong.

Also, I blame the bus driver.  A lot.

Wait, wait, wait. The bus driver told the police that the rest of the people on the bus were dead, according the CNN article. Were they, or were they not? It's not exactly clear.

Either way: that was an incredibly idiotic thing to do! If there happened to be anyone else alive on that bus, then they could've been caught in the cross-fire and killed when the police tried to take out the gunman!

Also: for anyone interested, yahoo also has an article. It's a little less confusing than the CNN article, I think, but not as much information.

Yup obviously they were not all dead, since a large number of them walked off that bus after the gunman was killed.

I just noticed the CNN article has been updated to read "Mendoza sprayed machine-gun fire at the hostages"

o.O

Edit:  The Yahoo article says he had a M-16 rifle.  A rifle!  Those things are no good in close quarters.  Why did the hostages not disarm him!
