Can't remember which, but I remember a few where Ash would put in a Pokemon that was generally weak against it's opponent, just to show how strong they are.
Considering Pikachu has lame defense and low Attack, plus it only learns Electric Special Attacks, putting it against a Ground type is basically suicidal.
I wasn't referring to the game. Because Pikachu's stats and weaknesses are already programmed.
In the show, he can beat a rock type. Maybe a ground type. I can't remember exactly.

He can only learn it through TM. But I think in the show, he can learn Iron Tail.
And if I recall correctly, he can learn a special move (not in the game): Thunder/Electric Iron Tail.
