Really? There are people who don't know Singapore?  :o
Perhaps I should describe my location a little further from now on; not only "Munich, Bavaria", but "Munich, Bavaria, Germany, Central Europe". Cause if they don't know Singapore, than how can I be sure they know Bavaria?
And Singapore is really easy to describe - most southern point of Asia (yeah, I know, the actual city is located on an island, but those 50km or so shouldn't matter).

I've heard of Singapore, though all I really know is that it's an island in Asia. Heard of Bavaria, too, as a famously beautiful part of Germany. I wonder if I need to start specifying where Scotland is myself; I've often been asked if it's a town or county in England.

Well, I know there's people that don't know the location of Argentina. I don't blame them, but it is pretty big to never have seen it in a world map

You know, Bavaria is significantly larger than Singapore...

Too put it simply, the whole beer garden and lederhosen thing actually applies only to Bavaria (you won't find them anywhere except Bavaria and nearby Swabia), which is the south-east corner of Germany and makes up about 1/6 of Germany if you go by area. One of the 16 federal states, Bavaria is by far the most conservative area in Germany.
Munich is the "capital" of Bavaria and features the well-known Oktoberfest. Bavarian customs, however, aren't really present in the city itself, which is - surprise - mainly just like any other city (with the notable exception of its very competent public transport).

Well Bavaria is not that large. Globally measured, that is. It's about 60% of the size of Java.
