Ayumi is 7 years old, there's A WHOLE LOT of development (physically and specially mentally) that she has to do in order to be part of an official couple, so yes, the age is very important here.

As nobody would have a problem with Ayumi growing up and be in a couple. The difference here, and what probably makes ShinRan the OTP of DC, is that Shinichi and Ran love each other.

Shinichi is a case freak, we all know that. It doesn't mean he doesn't love Ran.

Let me quote a passage from the depths of the Ai+Conan thread when it was in its golden years:

With Shinichi, he had been bleeding at the time, so some of his cells left the body. He had an open womb. Haibara was in a gas chamber, that effected the brain and probably transferred into the body that was diminishing. Gas makes the body woozy, and so the cells leave the body and rush to the brain, I believe.
But with that being said, Ai is a grown woman. Ayumi is still a kid, and has 11 more years before she even becomes an adult, and buy the time she even becomes a young adult, Ai and Shinichi will be reaching their prime years of 30...
As you can see, being a kid affects it greatly and you simply can't ignore this fact. Discuss and dream all you want about AyuCon, as EVERYONE does about his/her favourite pairing, but don't try to make everyone like/think what you like/think.
