‘Twas the Night Before Day 1, or, A Visit from Yumi
'Twas the night before Day 1, and all through the game
The BO were stirring, to kill or to blame.
Their actions were typed out in PMs with care,
In hopes that the GM her blessings would share.
The lovers were shaking with fear in their beds,
With visions of death from all sides in their heads;
And Yuriko-Yumi, her prep phase work done,
Had just settled down to wait for the sun.
But then in her inbox arose such a clatter,
She sprang from her bed to see what was the matter.
“Allies!” the subject, she read in a flash,
Inside, a prospective alliance with Bash.
The other PMs all contained different names,
Entreaties from pofa and Raiden and Kain.
As she opened up PMs from Hope and PT,
Yumi frowned at the screen—how had this come to be?
As if Gosho himself had prepared her a twist,
Each of these six names had been on her list.
As quick as she could, she wrote down their claims,
Then she puzzled, and pondered, and looked at the names.
"Now, Raiden! He says he’s of use in a fight!
Both Bash and PT say they can’t act at night!
Hopeless and Kain put the badguys on ice!
pofa can tell if you’re naughty or nice!"
Yuriko read this with cynical eyes.
How could such a group not contain any spies?
Two cops—-that itself was a reason for pause,
And town lovers? The GM was not Santa Claus.
So what should she do? In the cold winter night
Yumi covered up warm and awaited first light.
Day 1? From the BO, all wrapped in a bow,
Jex-Kobayashi was dead on the snow.
Yumi rolled up her sleeves and pursed her lips tight,
Preparing to track down who’d done wrong that night;
But then in her inbox, a message from Hope
An interrogation she’d caught in her scope.
Yumi thought maybe pofa? But before she’d adjusted,
pofa PM’d her—hope was not to be trusted!
What should she do? As the lynching drew near,
The town grew more silent, all waiting in fear.
But before the hope lynch votes were put to the test,
Came the strange sudden news: There had been an arrest!
Hope was in jail, not by Yuriko’s hand
A quick check with Kain—yes, it had been her plan.
But hope wasn’t jailed for Jecka’s death’s sake;
Instead, the deed done with a pinch to the face!
Hopeless was Kid? Or Vermouth, who knew?
Nothing to do now but wait through Night 2.
But Yumi had help; she was pleased to discover
A watch and a bowtie, to help with her cover!
In the morning, she read her results with dismay;
She’d been tricked, and Dus-Kir was the dead of the day.
In his will, he had warned that four BO most frightening,
Had stopped his Day 1 vote, had struck it like lightning;
Besides this, he knew from his secret NOC banter
Some BO was running around throwing slanders.
Could she try an arrest, with no reason or rhyme?
Tequila was out there, they had little time.
PT checked in, and with no badguys caught,
Yumi gave back her items (well, probably, she thought)
pofa again, with her list checked on twice
This time it was Bash who had not come out nice.
Yumi readied her cuffs and sent actions that morn
But the town barely heard—they’d lynched KaitouRai-Korn!
And Bash was Tequila—-either that, or well-blamed—-
But the BO weren’t caught with no crimes to their names.
Kain-Nakamori slumped over her tea,
Abs.-Camel, breva-Shinichi—-a spree.
All this besides, with a knife and a gloat,
KaiRai had given to PT her vote.
Night 3--At her inbox came Raiden’s hard knock;
He’d been frightened that day—-Tequila’s last shock.
Convenient—a lie? It was too hard to tell.
Yumi knew she looked suspicious as well.
But now she gave time to a frightening thought—
pofa, the reason two badguys were caught.
Wasn’t that too convenient? Two BO or one;
She knew who to check before each night was done.
Yuriko watched her—close, not halfway—
And saw as she took off her Kujou cosplay.
When Day 3 came ‘round, no town blood was spilt;
Conia’d been tricked; pofa sang PT’s guilt.
“That does it,” thought Yumi, “I’m through being led.
If I don’t catch these lovers, we all will be dead!
If pofa is of PT’s guilt still accusin’,
It’s probably Raiden she’s real scared of losin.’
The girl I’ll arrest, and Raiden I’ll lynch.
We’ll see in this town, who is the real Grinch!
That’ll leave one BO to account for his sins.
(It’s been clear from the start that Conia is Gin.)”
But then came a thought—-must it all end in blood?
Perhaps she could do this sad town some real good.
“Listen pofa,” she wrote, “It’s all come to light.
Believe me, I sympathize now with your plight.
You’re Vermouth, Ray’s town, and he tricked me to boot.
I’ll see you both in a bright orange suit!”
“So what can we do?” pofa asked in alarm.
“Don’t you think we’d rather do good than harm?
But Conia is wise to us now, for last night
I asked Ray to trick him; it was that or he died.”
“All right then,” said Yumi, “Here’s what avails.
Conia may poison you, but I’ll save you in jail.
Meanwhile, Ray, PT, and I will vote Gin;
We’ll lynch him away, and leave you and your friend.
You’ll have to atone for your crimes for a while,
But far better that, than death tragic-love style.”
And so on Day 3, the lynch came again;
Arrest, a failed poison, the town turned on Gin.
The town won the battle; Yumi’s work was now finished.
And—she was pleased—the returns weren’t diminished.
As PT-Agasa smacked Gin with her crutches,
Ray-Eisuke and pofa were out of death’s clutches.
And all ‘mid the humming of six police cars,
Vermouth and Eisuke held hands through the bars.
A sweet carol was sung between the two lovers
As all around angels and cherubim hovered.
And ah, what the hey, in the holiday spirit,
Dead townies and BO all came back to hear it.
KaiRai stood up, she and PT made peace.
Kain, bash, and Conia all laughed in relief.
(And in quiet, with everyone else off in groups,
Yumi unlocked Hope-Kid-Chiba’s prison cell—oops.)
With a smile satisfied for a town’s future bright,
Merry Christmas,” said Yumi, “And to all a good night!”
