I'd say that Callid is correct here. When linguists talk about connections between languages, they're not referring to what's written down. It's certainly true that Chinese has influenced Japanese significantly, in ways that go far beyond borrowing words (changes to syntax and spoken pronunciation), but its origins are complete different, as is shown well enough by the difficulties that emerged in the process of grafting on the character system. The original comment that sparked the debate has the undertone of dopey ethnic nationalism that emanates so often from China these days, which is perhaps why is sparked such a reaction.

Well, I would love to learn it cause there may be some anime which till date, I have never heard of. So, i would definitely love to learn it
