A few people thought the number actually does matter, which is why they started to excessively post in the Off Topic section in order to increase their post number. It wasn't well received and we frowned upon this act, so the big bosses made it so that the off topic posts wouldn't count, in order to eliminate this unnecessary action.
Then a big meteor hit the earth and everyone died. (okay, that last part is made up, but the rest is true)

But why did they think the number does matter? Did the most active posters receive some bonuses in the past? On an italian DC forum there is a system where depending on the number the profile has the name of "detective", "almost expert detective", "super detective" etc, but it doesn't give any bonuses, just a sort of name change.

Because some people are hella competitive over literally everything.
I really don't get it why did so many people on youtube give negative votes to the videos with the walrus and baby vs dog that I posted. Do they have no sense of humor

I have no clue why they thought the number matters. I imagine it's because if your number is low it sort of implies that you're a "newbie" in the forum, thus you're not equal to someone with a high number (it's only my conjecture, though). It's really silly, I agree, but back at 2009/2010 we had a lot of silliness going on here (we still seem to have some silliness going on here, though).
Also, what mangaluva said might be a better reason than what I suggested.
Sorry, college, but I'm not going to apply for your Accelerated Master's program (even if I do qualify for it) when there's one professor in the entire university who does anything at all with my concentration area.
Besides, theoretical computer science makes my head hurt, and most of the required courses for Master's in CS here are theoretical in nature.

So some kids were playing football (I assume it was "American Rugby" because America :V) and I guess one of them got hit in the mouth and his tooth got knocked out. Now there's blood on the pavement where we keep the cars. Omg there's a park just 100 ft up the street, did you really have to play in front of our gate? >:V

If you suspect a user is ban-dodging, I would personally recommend not even bothering to engage them (it's usually exactly what they're fishing for). Per usual, their accounts/posts will be removed immediately. It's at your discretion, but that's my two pence.

B-but, but...Autumn is awesome! D:

So it turns out that after seven years, the episode of Scrubs where Laverne dies can still make me sob. Seriously, tears dripping off my chin and struggling to breathe sobbing. SHE HELD ON JUST LONG ENOUGH FOR CARLA TO SAY GOODBYE ;_;
Ban-dodging usually means multi-accounting; when one account gets banned, you make a new one and continue posting. This is one of the reasons why multi-accounting is a major offense on most forums. Generally, if you've been banned from posting for a time or from a particular forum, it's for a really good reason, and the mods wouldn't ban you if they were okay with you continuing to post.
Anywaaaaaaaaay... what a beautiful day it is outside. Time to sit inside watching Scrubs and working on my 90-minute script that's due in two months.
