Seriously, it's your parents' (or whoever brought you up/you were around in early childhood) influence.

So like nom's parents probably speak with some Danish accent and she picked it up.

My mum is Swedish, my dad came here when he was three years old, he does speak with accent only when he speaks to his parents. Also, no-one has ever said that I have a Danish accent before they get to know my last name or that I am half Danish. I do have traces of a lot of dialects when I speak so placing me is hard, but no Danish.

Most people recognize my accent as Bavarian immediately, but when I tell them that I'm studying Russian, some have thought that I had a Russian accent, because of the R.

In the UK, i was once asked whether I was Lithuanian. Wtf?

I seriously don't understand what's wrong with the people here since well yeah, I am kinda a foreigner..............or at least I might have been if it was not for the fact that I came to this country 16 years ago.

They say I have an accent. Either 10 people are crazy, or I have an accent and I'm not aware of it. But how the hell can I have an accent? I find it very unlikely that I have a german accent since that would mean I have an accent left from 16 years ago, and then I was three, so I really don't see how you can develop such a strong accent at that time which will stay for so long. I don't know, maybe I'm speaking too much english (and I do so without israeli accent), so something might have caught on to me.
Do the people know that you are from Germany? I know that sometimes when I say I am half Danish people are all like "Yeah, I could hear that" and when I say I have never spoken Danish in my whole life and barely heard it spoken it is always an awkward silence. Know-it-alls are weird...
That's the funny thing. They didn't. I thought of the possibility that they make the mistake because I'm white but...............30% of the population here is white, so it doesn't make much sense.

Yeah but my mother is 100% israeli and there was lack of communication between my dad (german) and me at the early age. Aside from that, no one has ever pointed out to me in my childhood that I have an accent. So I'm really not sure how suddenly I got an accent.

Well, if you look somewhat foreign then they might just be imagining things.

when I was a kid, apparently there was a month or so where I somehow gained a southern accent, despite never being to the south. So dunno, maybe you did just develop it randomly (though unlikely).

But considering the amount of Ashkenazim in Israel (which used to be the majority), unless I truly look western, I'm just like the other white person across the street.
Again, it also can be that since I'm trying to speak my english with american accent, that I developed some sort of an accent while speaking hebrew.
This.......might explain it. I had a brain surgery 9 years ago because of a tumor, but according to the doctors, no damages came out of it.
Well, since I plan to leave this place in about a year, I'm not truly concerned about it.

American English? Shame on you! Is there a specific Ashkenazim accent? Maybe that's what they're refering to... (Ashkenazim are the German Jews, right?)

Not american english. American accent. My english practice comes 100% from the british english (at least that's what our american english teacher told us in high school)

The problem here would be that there is no way that I'm the only one with an Ashkenazi accent since there are many others here as well.
I'm pretty sure that in now-days, the word Ashkenazim lost its true context. Now it's really just another way of referring to white jews from middle/western europe.

Well, it would make sense to call you "foreign", but it's a strange thing to point out, considering how many Ashkenazi there are in Israel...
