What's on your mind?

I DON'T CARE ABOUT PONIES AND YOU CAN'T MAKE ME

If you'll excuse me, I have a serious debate to consider. What was prettier: The scenery in The Hobbit, Galadriel's dress, or Kili?

Scenery then dress then Kili :x
kholoudsafir wrote: The CBBC programmes " Deadly 60" and " Horrible Histories " are really good and educational. I learnt a lot from Horrible Histories  :P but the hilarious thing that I recently learnt in the stupid death part was that Pythagoras had a stupid death  :o
The Horrible Histories TV series was based on a series of books. Books that I loved and wouldn't mind rereading now I'm reminded. Main thing I remember from the TV series is the Charles II rap, because by the time the series came out I was probably counted as too old to be watching CBBC, but somehow... I still managed to watch some it :x. We ended up watching an episode in History in year 7 actually :x. Which reminds me that in year 8/9 history we got to watch Blackadder because it explained how elections used to be run and all the flaws of them. It was hilarious and I wish we got to do more vid watching in History :x *_*.
An even better example of this stuff though is probably BBC Bitesize. It's a website that's like a learning/revision guide for all subjects you can take for GCSE as well as having sections for KS3 and Scottish education (though I don't know how good those are :x). Pretty thorough from my experience because it includes most things from the GCSE specification and has activities and mini-test things too.
I wouldn't say British(or in this case, English and Welsh) education at ages 14-16 is the best, but it's getting better (or rather, the current government is shoving the grade boundaries back up and removing modular exams, returning GCSE back to a much harder thing to do well in. Though, I wouldn't say I approve of getting rid of the more vocational GCSEs; people who can't do as well at the traditional subjects have a much better chance at doing well with vocational stuff. Except horticulture, they can get rid of that :P).
EDIT: To explain better, for the past however many years more and more people have been doing 'better' at GCSE level. The thing is, that with the way that grades are given out (Wikipedia probably explains it better than I do) that isn't actually possible without exam boards making it so a larger number of people can pass e.g. changing the percentage of people who can get an A from 5% to 10%*. Also, they introduced modular exams which mean that you can take, say... an exam at the end of year 10 on half the stuff and an exam at the end of year 11 on the other half making it so people only have to remember half the stuff for each exam instead of *all* of it. Basically, the government(or rather, the several past governments) were doing this in order to make it look like they were giving a better education to people when it just devalued what grade people got and made it harder for them to bridge the gap when it came to A-level.
The current government has decided to change this, making it harder to do well at GCSE which hopefully will up the standard of education which is probably one of the few good things they've done (the Coalition is probably centre-rightish and as I prefer left-wing policies I disagree with some of the stuff they've done).
...and I'm blaming my dad for even knowing this. It's not particularly motivating for me given that I'm taking most of my GCSEs this year :|.

*I don't know the exact percentages so this is just a random example

Yeah that's the thing I don't understand, you have only 15hours a week free?
In France we have insane timetables, even pre-schoolers start at 8.30 AM and finish at 4.30PM! (sure, there is a pause, but still)

Just going by what we're taught in French classes, but it seems like education in France is pretty different to places like the UK and the US. In France, the education is provided but it's a lot more independent so the pupils are more responsible for their own learning whereas in the UK the teachers have to watch out for pupil's wellbeing, provide them with free lunches if needed and all that a lot more. How true is that in general?
And what age do you start school/preschool over there? I know one of my cousins over there only started learning how to read when she was 7 so... is that normal or does it change depending or whatever?
Btw, schools and preschools over here aren't really nationalised so much. A lot more of it is dependent on councils who account for stuff like how wealthy the area is and so on.
Sorry if I'm not making much sense :-\...

My point was that is far more impressive for a show intended for little girls to become the most popular show among 20ish males than it'd be for a show aimed at that audience. Arguably, you could even see it as an argument to the opposite - the show has managed to become immensely popular with them even though it is aimed at little girls, what an amazing quality it must have! :P

Also, it gets a lot better after roughly the first half of season 1 (around either 1x14 or 1x16, depending on your opinion on 1x15... :P).

First thing first: Yes, teacher don't tell us we're all a special snowflake and that everything can work out your way, the few things I gathered from the UK schooling system is that you're all nannied for years. But don't worry, it's not a battlefield, what's bothering most parents it's that after they had a long day of work, they still have to look at their children's homework, etc.
We learn to read the first year of primary school, but we're supposed to know a few words, it would depend on the teacher. My parents helped me learn in preschool because I wanted to, and I think the teachers helped me too.
I'd say about everyone goes to school at around 2 and half / 3 years old, but the child has to know how to go to the toilet on his own, i.e. not pee on himself anywhere he can.

I have no idea how the budget for education is allocated or funded for schools. We never really talk about it, I have no idea where I could find the information, sorry ^^

Scenery.  You can tell, since they had shots where it was basically just that + tiny walking characters for like 2 minutes at a time.  The dress wasn't bad, but I was too fixated on her hand to notice (I was curious if it'd show her ring.  It did not).

I really don't want to hate the Westboro Baptist Church as much as I do, because hate is what they want (there is no other conceivable reason for treating the deaths of 27 people, the majority of them children, as a good thing and a "judgment by God" because making gay marriage legal somehow makes mass murder okay), but I can't stop feeling like the world would be a better place if someone went through their church with an assault rifle screaming "WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?"

But I don't wanna be that person, so deep, cleansing breaths, try not to hate, think of pretty New Zealand scenery...

School nurseries do 15 hours only a week for pre-school children, some times even less, depends on their system/space.

However, pre-schools which are not part of schools do more than 15 hours a week, which suits some parents, then they have to pay whatever exceeds the 15 hours

some parents might send their children to pre-school for the full of the 15 hours, or part of it.  But they have to pay anything exceed the 15 hours.

@ Stopwatch: If you think you are too old to watch horrible histories, you make me feel  :-[, because I enjoy watching it  :-[
I think that those two CBBC programmes are good, because any programme that attracts a 7 years old boy and make learning fun for him about animals like Deadly 60 or history, then this is a really good programme.

This.

This is what.

I'm gonna go rewatch P!nk's appearance on the X Factor, because P!nk singing anything makes my life better, and that orchestral arrangement of Try is the most beautiful thing I've heard in a long time.

I still watch Horrible Histories occasionally but it's CBBC so I have to make sure no one else is nearby XD

In case you're wondering what Manga's talking about I'm guessing it's something to do with this, though I'm guessing she probably found out from a more reliable source than an article that seems to think that the Daily Mail is a place to get info from.

EDIT: RM'd by Manga :x
