dilbert from the comic strip. schalter being a random combination of letters that sounds like something, though it apparently does mean something in german.

"The energies of our system will decay; the glory of the sun will be dimmed, and the earth, tideless and inert, will no longer tolerate the race which has for a moment disturbed its solitude. Man will go down into the pit, and all his thoughts will perish. The uneasy consciousness, which in this obscure corner has for a brief space broken the contented silence of the universe, will be at rest. Matter will know itself no longer. 'Imperishable monuments' and 'immortal deeds,' death itself, and love stronger than death, will be as though they had never been."

I was actually pretty oddly excited that I could have my name as my username.

It means switch. And yes, that is confusing.dilbertschalter wrote: dilbert from the comic strip. schalter being a random combination of letters that sounds like something, though it apparently does mean something in german.
We don't make mistakes. We have happy accidents.

Re: Where we got our usernames
Well, at the time I joined here, I didn´t really care about what my username should be, so I just chose this, since it was easy to remember.

Re: Where we got our usernames
just want to make a similar thread, do some quick search and found this. so here I go ;)
DarkRen comes from Dark and Ren (of course ;D
)
Ren is not my real name. It is my pen name. When I was an author for my school magazine, I wanted to make a pen name started with an "R" because my real name starts with an "R". Now most of my friends call me that.
Dark is Dark :D. I kinda like it because it sounds so evil >:D
. Originally it comes from a game. Anyone here played Chrono Cross? While the main chara (Serge) became evil, he named himself DarkSerge. so here it is, DarkRen ;D
I use this name everywhere, so if you found "DarkRen" or "Dark Ren" in another forum, IRC or online game, it is me ;)

Re: Where we got our usernames
well, the first timeI had to create an email adress I used my real name substituting the a's for 4's and added a 7 so I spent a lot of time using p4ul47 as a nickname, then Pauchan7 but some years ago i decided to create an actual nickname for me that would stuck and serve as my japanese nickname to boot.
I wanted a name that existed in normal japanese but that it would be weird enough not many people would have the same so I went to one website I haven't been able to find again that showed all the possible kanji combinations of real names in Japan sorted by kana (it was like hundreds of pages
) and spent one entire afternoon browsing through it for an already existing name combination of two of my fave manga characters (Yukino from Karekano and Izumi, the teacher of Edo & Alphonse from FMA) so it was between Yukimi and Yukumi and since yukumi didn't appeared to be a real name or at least very very very weird and Yukimi also sounded better I ended up with it with the kanji combination of going to watch the snow (since I hadn't watched snowing ever then and then the one I usually use) or beautiful snow if I wanted to have a more standar and realistic name. Sometimes it's taken so I go by Yukimi87 (my year of birth). I like my real name but i identify more with my online one nowadays.
PS: I also took my time to name my cats. I'm crazy like that.
