It is very, very uncommon, while the man has pretty much a not significantly reduced fertility.

Of course not. But assume that we have one couple where he's 50 and she's 35, and one where she's 50 and he's 35. Which is more likely to get children? And therefore, concerning all children, how will the ratio of older father to older mother look?
Of course, people don't think about it, but being infertile makes one rather likely to not become a parent :x
