-Canada top the medal table for the first time in the competition with 2 gold medals, one in men's short track and one in men's moguls, and a silver medal in men's moguls too.
-Another sweep for Netherlands in speed skating, this time in the men's 500 m, brings their totaly tally to 7 medals including 3 golds, all of which have been won in speed skating.
-The US get an extra bronze medal from Julia Mancuso's surprise performance in alpine skiing combined. This is her 3rd consecutive olympic games with a medal.
-Maria Höfl-Riesch brings a second medal to Germany, a second gold, in the alpine skiing combined. She keeps her olympic title in this event.
-One extra bronze medal for Russia in the moguls.
-One extra silver medal for Austria in the alpine skiing combined.
-France get their first 2 medals in the men's biathlon 12.5 km pursuit. Martin Fourcade came first while Jean-Guillaume Beatrix came third. The Norwegian Ole Einar Bjørndalen came 4th missing out on a record 13th olympic medal.
