2012 Paralympics Thread

Post by Stopwatch »

I realise it's over two weeks until they actually start, but the Olympics'll soon be over and I get the feeling they might just be forgotten otherwise :-X. So, until they start I guess this'll just be a speculation thread and people can point out, say, particular paralympic athletes they feel are inspirational or whatnot (the obvious on being South Africa's 'blade runner' :-X).

Don't like double posting, but not really got any other way around this...
Anyway, China's already in the lead with 13 golds, with Australia and Ukraine following behind in the medals table. Got to admit I'm surprised Ukraine have been doing so well so far, but guess we'll have to see how it turns out.

Also, thought it might be interesting to compare to the results in Beijing so check here for that.

In this country none of the nationally available channels broadcast one single minute of the events live. There's a daily resume and talkshow (and only after people complained a lot), and that's it.

Wow Israel got 2 bronze medals?

That's 2 medals more overall than what the Israeli team got in the official Olympics ::)

China now have 100 medals overall (44 golds, 26 silver, 30 bronze). It's looking like they might be set to beat what they got in Beijing (211 medals and 89 golds).
After that it's GB, Australia, Russia, Ukraine, US and Germany in that order.
Australia to Ukraine are still close enough to switch around a bit, but if things keep going the way they are, GB is pretty secure in second place for now. America being on only 10 golds means that unless they do something soon, they'll probably be left behind. I've heard that Australia and Ukraine have decent set-ups for their disabled to participate in sports so good luck to them~
And congrats to Ellie Simmonds and all the others :D.

EDIT: China is now on 111 medals o_O

EDITEDIT: For those who don't know who Ellie Simmonds is, check here. Don't worry, the page isn't too long :P. She's pretty amazing though :).

I really wish they had broadcasted the Paralympics like they had the Olympics. We actually got some medals there!

Meh, if GB had taken that Northern Irish guy up on his offer instead of Ireland, then we'd've beaten Russia! Oh well, everyone tried their best and there were some pretty awesome moments for everyone in there :D
Also, David Weir ftw \o/
