I've always liked how they start that episode off by reversing that point of view from the start of the black star case.
Actually, having watched 219 several times (at least twice a day, I think) the sheet KID uses to hide the hands covered KID the entire time and Shinichi didn't have a good look at him (all Shinichi knew was he was facing a thief who used magic - remember that Shinichi is not interested in thieves so he prolly isn't updated with Interpol's Most Wanted Thieves list) and at the end part of the First Contact part of the episode, you could see that Shinichi tried to ask Megure who they just faced. He said something like, "Oh yeah inspector who was - oh, never mind" before the helicopter flew away.
