Snake's direct superior was pretty easily pwned in the manga, so either the MK organization is the B-team (not likely, since they killed Toichi), or we haven't met any of the real higher-ups yet. I agree that Snake's probabaly pretty low-level.

Although, Gin seemed like a low-level thug at first, too, so who knows how awesome Snake would have gotten after twenty or so volumes.

Pretty easily pwned by Kid. They got away from the cops easily enough- they don't seem to have found the "underground passage" that they used to escape, or even have been aware that anybody but Kid was in the house. But that said, even Snake's boss doesn't seem to be the top dog; he keeps saying things like "I have to report to him" and "This could be the jewel that he]/i] is searching for". Kinda reminds of me of the ambiguous way that the Organization members refer to "Anokata" or "that person" in the english manga. They could be, if not part of something bigger, at least connected.

Watching the special again, I couldn't help but think, "Did they really kill Toichi, Or did Toichi simply allow them to kill him."

We know that Snake knew that Kid was Toichi becasue he assumed current Kid was Toichi (And he implies he may or may not have been involved with the accident). Another fact is that eight years ago he set up his secret lair so that Kaito would find it in the future, This mean he had to know he was going to die on the same night or general time frame that he made that final magic. He was still acting as Kid (which is why he was killed), so it's not that he gave it up anytime before, so having a magic trick like that set there would be problematic (Since it seemed to lock his only way in for 8 years).

So, Why did he let himself die? Was it that he decided to sacrfice himself for some reason (His family could have been threatened). Where they targeting someone else? Did he fake his death? (Doubtful given they all seem sure he's dead, meaning his body was found).

In the special, it hints that his mother knew the time frame her Son would become Kid (Meaning she'd proabaly had been in on the whole thing, including that her Husband would proabaly die that night). In the manga she's surprised to hear the sound (And instantly knows what it is), but I don't think it completely contradicts it. Since she seems fine with it, meaning she knew her son was going to eventually take up the Top Hat.

I'm not sure if he planned to die then, the lock was probably a failsafe... or maybe it was just the tape was a failsafe and after Toichi's death Chikage set up the lock to unlock when Kaito was sixteen. In the anime special she did say "I know you're going to be busy these days" and Kaito went "What's that about?", so she seemed to know that the door would unlock then. Everyone seems certain that Toichi's dead, but his death is only ever shown by a huge explosion; no body is ever shown, and a huge explosion and fire is the kind of scenario where maybe you could get away with not finding a body. Snake and Jii both easily believed that he was Toichi. So maybe he's alive, or maybe he was just the kind of guy who it's hard to believe could actually die.

I also thought about that at some point, but there seems to be no clues in the manga which hint us that Toichi may still be alive.

He probably isn't, but you can see why the bad guys might believe that he is.
