Well, probably for the same reason his dad never tried to figure out who the original Kaito Kid was.  It's no fun to unmask them while their guard is down, so to speak.  The challenge comes from unmasking them when they're in their alternate persona.

I agree with the "Shinichi has other priorities" theory. Also, Shinichi noticed that KID has been giving back the gems he has stolen. Maybe he'd like to figure why he's been doing that, first. (Maybe deep inside he knows that KID doesn't mean any harm and they did help each other on several occasions or so.)

Precisely the point.

Conan has been involved with KID so many times; Granted he also has his fathers own research, that he has likely formed his own conclusions regarding the brigand. The fact that all returned items have been returned, adds a sense of nobility and innocence to the equation. When you have a person dealing with Murders, Extortion, Drug Abuse, Theft, Armed Robbery, Arson, Blackmail, Kidnapping, Corruption, Abuse, Fraud, etc... All of which affect people on very close and personal levels, KID does not really fall high on the priority list. I would rather bust the dirt-bag that just ripped of a house rather than the kid that littered a Soda Can at the local Park. The Iron Tanuki case also comes to mind, and one can refer to that and form their own deductions as to their bizarre symbiotic relationship of sorts.

I mean hey; Hypothetically; What would you guys do? You're a brilliant, albeit shrunken, detective that sits around at an Apartment Flat most of his days unless a case comes in. Likely reads a book or does other various recreational activities that most people do. We have already witnessed him, very energetically, tuning in to the television late at night when more "suitable" shows are airing. Occasionally by chance or fate, you stumble upon a lead with the Black Organization and have a very intensive adventure which then mysteriously dies down as you patiently wait for the next clue.

Then again, in all of KID's heists, Nakamori-Keibu and his Task Force have received a fair amount of praise. It garners respect, and people feel like they can depend upon their Police Department to protect them. Even with Megure  most of the time the attention was directed to the "Valiant efforts of the Metropolitan Police Department, with assistance by Private Investigator Kudou Shinichi." - Megure received a lot of attention and rewards from his higher ups for his success, it is likely that Conan is well into the hospitality business. It is one thing to simply book the bad guy, but by allowing people to prosper from it, and improve their circumstances, it doesn't get better than that to a pure soul.
