I've got a funny (hopeful) feeling that Minami couldn't do Aoko's voice because if she did, she'd be doing both main characters at the same time, and she might not have enough time for that.  Hopeful, because if that's the case then it's more likely MK's going to be longer.

The art style is growing on me.  It's real ... wacky.  Gosho-inspired, but there's definitely something distinct about it.  I wasn't too sure about the martian/tentacle monster, but... it was worth it for the LJ comment that Icka'd gone canon >_<.  Mop fight and fish were pure and utter WIN.

...and we finally get a proper look at Kaito and Aoko's houses, too.  As for Aoko's hair?  It did get longer - not long, but longer - by Dark Knight part Two.

I really, really like the art style now, though the thing with guys' hips still bugs me. I especially liked the peek into Kaito's house, and Kaito's mom's new persona is growing on me. If she's really
Spoiler:
The Phantom Lady
, I can see that more in the bubble lady who randomly took off for Vegas than the quieter woman from the manga chapter. Was that "friend of Toichi's" meant to be Yukiko or something, or did Toichi just have a lot of lady friends? (I can believe that latter- he's a smexii man ♥ )
Icka'd gone canon
OMG... I hadn't seen that quote before... but it made me laugh SO much XDXDXDXD

Watching it again and with subs this time, and if she is Yukiko, it's really... weird.  She's got a similar hairstyle, but... dunno.  Chikage, however - first time I saw her on the video post, I thought she was some news reporter girl or something.  Because I had the image of the housewife in my mind.  But still - shows she's got a bit more backbone than in the manga.

I am SO looking forward to the next chapter of DC now.  I've seen rumours, and the idea's a fun one.

I watch Icka on LJ, so it was probably in one of her posts that I first saw it :D  I don't agree with her series, but the offhand comment made me laugh when I read it.

Saw it. Was initially confused as to who Kid was. Overall, I wasn't really impressed. It was just okay. =\ How someone could do that and not get expelled is ridiculous. XD

That school has seen worse.  I'm pretty sure that Yaiba and co. have destroyed it at least once...

yeah, as I've said before, it's pretty mediocre compared to most of the series which tends to be either far more wackier (and therefore awesome) or have the drama comparable to some of the better Conan cases (and therefore...awesome).

The first half of 219 is a far better indication of what Magic Kaito is like.

I agree - the first chapter/episode was very much meant to be a pilot.  The rest all expand on things and set up the running gags and who's gonna be recurring characters.

And he wasn't expelled because 1) It's Kaito.  He's probably done way worse, and 2) No real property damage, and he gets to clean everything up.  Also, 3) He's Kaito.  The main character doesn't get expelled for weird and wacky things that're just part of their reppetoir.

Judging by the teacher's expressions throughout the mop chase scene, she's way used to it, and as the math equations prove she doesn't really feel a right to get mad at them since it's clearly not affecting their studying. The martian thing still seems OTT random, though; in the manga he just kisses the teacher's hand, pops out a rose, and buggers off. Which seems a little more him to me.

Agree to all points.  The exit in the manga shows the teacher having her romantic side displayed to the class, and also that he'll also flirt with anyone to get what he wants as Kaito as well, so far as we know.  Even if it's sensei~

However, the Martian thing is added in so it can set things up for the finale to Kid's first real reappearance.  Not that I think he definitely had to have such a big opening on his first night when he wasn't expecting to have to do anything more than confront oyaji, but.... makes more sense to reel fans in that way?

It makes it a bit more epic, yeah. But it does seem a bit odd that he'd have that whole epic escape setup when he thought he was just confronting a thief, and frankly I think he'd thought that if it wasn't his dad, just some petty criminal, he could've handed him in to prove he was better.

I know - that's what I thought.  It was always originally meant to be that he was going to go to the heist to prove to Aoko that he was a better magician than the Kaitou Kid.  Would've done it and jailed the guy if it'd hadn't turned out like it did.  Something I love about the anime version is that you can really see his face when he hears Jii saying oyaji'd been murdered.  Instant world implode.

I know. It's heartbreaking. I also like how, since unlike the manga you can hear them speaking, you can actually hear the wobble in his voice when he asks if his father was a thief. That would reevaluate a lot of Hakuba's opinions of him, I think, if he knew just how hard he took it that Toichi was a criminal.
