They sound similar, but if you check the character credits on Wikipedia Minami Takayama is only credited to Conan, Aoko and of course herself XD

Well anyway, I can clear up the problem here. Wiki was right, somewhat. During Aoko's first appearance(also Kid's first appearance) she was voiced the same VA that does Ayumi. After this, Minami has voiced Aoko in all her appearances, which is why full credit is given to Minami for Aoko.

On a personal level, nothing against Ayumi's VA...but Aoko sounded exactly like Ayumi when she had the role(about 12 seconds, 4 lines) while Minami just adds a twist to Aoko. I don't know if hearing Minami sound so girly when she usually does tomboyish girls is the twist or that you can actually feel Aoko's character in her voice when she has the role(she sounds ditsy but it's a ditsy that you feel like she's hiding something).

Only 3 episodes. She only appears twice in the manga, in the same arc. I wish she'd pop up more. But I guess that won't happen until/unless the MK storyline starts appearing in DC.

I wouldn't mind seeing that as a lot of characters from Kaitou Kid are interesting but that would be opening the flood gates. Last time we need is Akako running around in her "eccentric" witch wardrobe casting magic all over the places trying to kill Conan as he tries to catch Kid.

I haven't read Magic Kaitou yet but Akako seems to have a role similar to Haibara's in series, the other potential love interest. So yeah, I don't see why a Akako vs Aoko war wouldn't happen. It would be exactly like Ran vs Shiho(Ai)(even though Akako and Aoko were created first..I think) since both have similar roles but people don't need much to start a pairing war.

I think Gosho waited too long to even try to attempt to let Kid's secondary characters develop at all. But with a series so large, he was bound to make quite a few mistakes.

Well, there is the possibility (a possibility) that Ai could end up with Mitsuhiko. But it seems kind of unlikely that there would be any AkakoxSaguru... Even though there are a few well written fics with that...
