Ran sat on her bed, looking at the photo of herself and Shinichi, which was down. She got off her own bed and put the photo up for good luck. She grabbed the cell phone that Shinichi had bought her for White Day, and blushed a bit. She opened it up and dialed Shinichi's number. Since he didn't pick up as usual, she decided to leave a voice mail.

"Um-" Ran stammered, blushing a bit, "Shinichi, I need to tell you something,and if you get this message,call back, okay?" She hang up, now playing with the strap on her phone.


Ran thought about the day Shinichi left.

"This thing happens a lot," Shinichi said calmly, laughing a bit. Ran yelled back at Shinichi, "It does not!!"

'Why didn't I tell him before?' Ran started to cry, since she could've said that she wasn't lying back then. She even could've stopped him from solving the case. No, she should've went with him.

"The reason I asked you out to dinner is..." Shinichi said nervously, blushing, "...there's something I have to tell you...a-and...that's..." And just as he was about to finish, he heard a scream. "What was that?" Ran asked, a bit worriedly. "Somebody must've seen a cockroach or something. Don't worry about it!" Shinichi said in reply, faking a smile.

But in reality, it was a murder that had happened. Ran had let him go, but Shinichi was unable to tell her three simple words, for he had turned back to Conan, even though Ran didn't know that Shinichi was Conan.

'If only he'd stay with me longer...tell me everything...' Ran thought solemnly.

"Ah, that's right!" Hattori yelled out suddenly. "Because the policeman wants to know more details, he asked me to go see him with Kudo! So you guys go on to the car first..." Ran then grabbed Shinichi's arm and yelled, "Don't go! I also have...a lot of things to ask Shinichi!" However, Shinichi was saved from showing his identity to Ran, and wanted to tell her that he loved her, but there was not enough time to do so.

'Maybe, just maybe, he'll call today. I'll tell him today. That...I love him.'


Ran tried dialling Shinichi's number again, and it was on the dial tone. He wouldn't answer. She sighed. Why wouldn't Shinichi answer the phone? Was he really working on cases? Or maybe...

She imagined Shinichi going out with some blonde woman, and then shook her head. Those were lies, she knew. But, she couldn't live like this all the time...


She stood up and opened her clothes drawer. The first thing she noticed were the gloves that Shinichi had given to her on Christmas a while back. She grabbed them and smelled them, remembering the days when she had grabbed Shinichi's arm, the times that she had tried to use her karate skills on Shinichi, but he dodged them all.

She had only held Shinichi's hand once, but that one time was enough to make her face all red.

"Shinichi...please come back..."


Ran had many chances to tell him, but all of them ended as failures. It was so sad for her, and for her own life. When Shinichi was there, she always got a bit nervous, and couldn't tell him how she felt. But today would be the day.


'But, what if Shinichi doesn't answer the phone? Maybe...when he comes back. Tommorow, maybe.' Ran started thinking. 'I'll tell him, no matter what he says. I'll follow him, go to where he is.'


'Well, I can't talk to him if I'm tired, now can I?' She told herself, yawning. She lay down on the bed, looking up and thinking about the things she would do later...

She had to change her life. And this is how she would do it. It would be perfect.

It had to be.


She fell asleep. In her dream, she saw Shinichi, and she was chasing him. But she could never get to him. Why? Why couldn't she reach him? Was she the right girl for him?

Ran knew that she loved him...but what about Shinichi? Did Shinichi love her back?

She woke up with a thump, tears rolling down her face.


Ran breathed in and out, trying to calm herself down. She heard a knock on a door, and she opened it, seeing Conan holding several flowers. They were the following:

An azalea, a white rose, a lotus, a daisy, a white camelia, and a yellow camelia. But there was one flower that she was glad wasn't there: the sweet pea.

The flowers that Conan was holding meant: patient, modest, innocence, silence, devotion, faith, waiting, and longing. The sweet pea, however, meant good-bye.

"Ran-neechan, these are for you." Conan handed Ran the flowers. "A-arigatou...Conan-kun..."
