READ BEFORE POSTING HERE: How The Story Discussion Board Works

Post by Abs. »

Hello, and welcome to the Story Discussion board!  If you have a passion for the DC manga storyline, this board is for you!   :)

Let's get you a copy of the general guidelines so that you can make this board the bestest ever in the history of the DCTP Forums!

General Guidelines

1. "Story" refers to the DC manga storyline.  DC Movies, OVAs, Magic Files, Anime Originals (AOs), and DC Special manga volumes are NOT canon, and therefore they have no bearing on the DC storyline as far as this Story Discussion board is concerned.  That is, they did not happen.

2. You may obviously discuss pairings (they are part of the story, after all) in this board - up to a certain point.  Pairing discussions, like anything else in this board, must be based on the story vs. wild speculation and shock-value "let's throw this out there!"  For example, if you want to discuss whether something that happened in the most recent manga file or case is the turning point in A and B's relationship, you may do it here.  However, keep in mind that there already exist threads in the General Discussion Board if you simply wish to talk about A and B together (or B and C, etc.) in general.  Also, remember your spoiler tags!

3. Spoiler tags!  You may discuss manga files/cases that have not yet been animated in this board.  However!  If those files have not yet been released as scanlations BY DCTP, it would behoove you to keep those discussions in spoiler tags.  Spoiler tags are made by using this bit of code:

Code: Select all

[spoiler]OMG CAN YOU BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED IN THE LATEST FILE?  CONAN'S IN DEEP DOO DOO NOW!  ZAMG[/spoiler]
- or by highlighting the text to be spoilered, and pressing the Image button above the text-entry box.  Either way, this is the result:
Spoiler:
OMG CAN YOU BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED IN THE LATEST FILE?  CONAN'S IN DEEP DOO DOO NOW!  ZAMG
4. Deductions by scarily smart people like Chekhov: Yes, they may not actually be spoilers, but if you think you may possibly have the solution to the current case (or current arc!) before the file containing the solution comes out, please put your deductions in spoiler boxes, and label them using words such as "Possible solution!"  This is done by adding the label into the spoiler tag:

Code: Select all

[spoiler=Possible solution!]Based on X, Y, and Z and the angle of K, the culprit must have used B to bludgeon the victim.  Since B was not available during time V, the culprit must be M![/spoiler]
Which would look like:
Spoiler: Possible solution!
Based on X, Y, and Z and the angle of K, the culprit must have used B to bludgeon the victim.  Since B was not available during time V, the culprit must be M!
The reason for this guideline is that some people may enjoy browsing other forum members' thoughts on the file, but are simply not ready for the solution yet.

If your entire thread is about the solution to an arc, label the thread subject appropriately (take care to avoid spoiling anything in the title, but make it clear the thread itself contains spoilers) and you do not have to worry about spoiler boxes.

5. When posting someone else's theory (to talk about or reference) from another site, use the Quote button Image to link the original article or post. Similar to the spoiler code, you paste the link to the original article into the quote tag:

Code: Select all

[quote="http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki/Tooru_Amuro#Bourbon"]Some people suspect Amuro is Bourbon because the character he is named after, Amuro Ray, is the mortal enemy of the character Shuichi Akai is named after, Char Aznable. Besides the name, other evidence for Amuro being Bourbon includes:
He is a detective and very skilled at information gathering.
He is male as the codename Bourbon implies. The Black Organization codename pattern is that hard liquors are used for men's codenames, and Kir used a male specific pronoun to refer to Bourbon in the Department Store Bomber Case.[1]
He has a type of personality Gin would not like. Gin thinks Bourbon is irritating.[2]
When Amuro offers Kogoro an unknown "tuition" per case Kogoro brings him on, the amount he offers is enough to get Kogoro excited and accept Amuro as an apprentice without hesitation. This is strange because Amuro would not be expected to have much money because he is young, lacks a formal agency, and works part time at restaurants in one of the most expensive cities in the world to live in.[/quote]
Which would look like:

This avoids confusion, and gives credit to the original author.

6. Be nice, be receptive of other's thoughts and ideas.  Don't get personal, thanks.

Can you switch rule #3 (spoiler tags for unreleased files) to rule #1? I think spoiler tags for unreleased files is the most important of them.

@Chek

Yes, but you are thinking rules, vs. welcoming guidelines ;)

To be fair, the part about spoiler boxes for unreleased scanlations is bolded.

a noobie question:

*spoiler free* =
1) we are free to post spoilers in this thread

or

2) we have to keep this section spoiler-free (that is, no spoilers please)?

The second.  Per the opening post in each spoiler-free thread:
This topic is for SPOILER FREE discussions of the current manga case. If you have glimpsed progression in the case that has not yet been covered by DCTP releases, this is not the correct topic to be discussing in. Spoilers from the latest case, no matter their source, may be discussed in the other topic on this case, which can be found here. Please read the rules in the first post of that topic as well!

In other words: If DCTP has not released the file in question, it is NOT to be discussed in this topic, not even in spoiler boxes.

And yet the first post in it removes all doubt.  So instead of being confused and risk posting a spoiler, check the first post.

Since the manga is obviously facing some new developments, here's one important thing to consider when creating a new thread that focuses on new developments, theories, new characters, etc.

When visiting the forum index, the title of the thread with the most recent post appears and is visible to everyone. In order to avoid revealing a spoiler by mistake to those who don't read the manga, please make sure to title your thread in a safe way.
You could either give your thread a long title with the spoilerific part at the end of the title (if it's long, the full title wouldn't be seen from the index page)*, or you could give it a vague title that doesn't seem like a spoiler**.

*an example for a long title: "(spoilers!) the true identity of Johnny Bipp"
**an example for a vague title: "The latest developments"

I have a question, I made my own theories about the plot of Detective Conan just like Chekhov's theories about the plot, can I post them in a new thread/topic?
