Still have 1005 and 1006 to read ayyy (though not going to until it comes back, keeping it one week behind from the releases).

I've been watching Chihayafuru
It's the manga/ anime that inspired Movie 21 The Crimson Love Letter and it does a better job at explaining the Karuta games with intense emotional karuta playing.
Definetly something to check it out to understand how movie 21 came about

Then you can try the Shogakukan Asia version of the manga that was released in Singapore in English
They kept the original names from the Japanese version, the only problem is that they seemed to skip around in the series
