The reason behind Rum's three Avatars

Postby Zerozaki4869 » May 21st, 2017, 4:34 am

Three different descriptions about Rum are there.
  • Rum is an effeminate man.
    Rum is a old man.
    Rum is a strong man.
The question is that what are the reasons of these three interpretations?
A theory of a three member team named Rum is already debunked by Gosho, so what's next?

There could still be three. They're just not Rum, someone may have mistook the person next to him as him too..

There are certain times when one description may have fit to him (foreshadowing what he's gone through and how he changed over time)

Or there's something causing a misunderstanding like a body double or a face mask+acting..

There isn't really much of a reason to start a new thread over every minor aspect.

Here we have a thread discussing Rum's identity: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=12514
Here we have a thread discussing the arc in general: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=13211

From what I can gather Rum either has the disguising abilities of Vermouth (this would depend on how old he is of course, as some have predicted him to be a young prodigy assassin, if he's too old then I don't think he could have learned without Touichi teaching him).

That leaves the only other option of him having three other associates posing as him to maintain his identity being the 2nd in command of the BO after all, even if Gin refused to meet Akai without testing his loyalty first then I doubt Rum would meet anyone either.

This only allows us to come to the conclusion that after meeting with these loyal associates of Rum (old man possibly Pisco,an effeminate man and a strong man) they being the young naïve and freshly recruited members, would have that image of Rum deeply engraved into their memories.

Therefore they pass down the story to other new members who have yet to meet him, each one telling their story differently.

The story would get mixed up leading to the different descriptions of Rum between various members.

In psychology I studied about reconstructive memory: Bartlett conducted an experiment where he told several people a story about an indigenous population and it included a canoe, long story short it was like Chinese whispers: they were told to pass on the story to the next person, the details of the story changed (the canoe in the original story was changed to a boat, due to their schema's causing them to depict their own culture) which led him to conclude that the schema's involved in reconstructing are memories are fallible and are easily prone to manipulation.

This is the only other way I could see Rum's description being so vague within the organisation, as none of the people beside Gin and Vermouth have seen Rum, leading to different contradicting descriptions.

Mod note: in the future please edit your posts to make them easier to read.

The third reply which I got in this thread a reason enough for me to post this question. The answers which I encountered while dealing with this topic were average and lacked conviction. But this third reply seemed a great starting point to me. To unearth every possible nook and cranny is sort of my passion.

I'm totally with you on this.
I can imagine Rum using Pisco(old man), Gin(womanly man) and Vodka(strong man) to do his bidding as he's the boss of virtually everyone sans the Boss.

The only thing which is a constant about Rum's description is his prosthetic eye, but prosthetic eyes can't be identified without closer inspection. It's higly unlikely that these three would let random BO people observe their eye.
So when Rum had to get a prosthetic it became a news in BO. Maybe the Bo members wanted to use this as Rum's sacrifice for BO and tried to boost up the morale of the rank and file of the BO.

You missed the point. I'm not saying not to post the question, I'm merely saying that there isn't a real need to open a new thread just for this subject when we already have existing Rum related threads that can serve as spots for these types of questions. (same for your thread about Rumi's and Kuroda's conversation).

Also please refrain from double posting.

(Apologies that upon my first interactions with you I'm hammering some forum etiquette. Nothing personal)
