Yeah but chances are that Gosho will now say so because of how big the movies are. It's not like Shinichi's age is some major plot point that can't change off-panel.Serinox wrote:The anime has him as 17 in Episode 3 already, Shinichi is referred to as 16 by a reporter who specialized on him in Volume 15 and what happens in the movies is not canon unless Gosho says so, so Shinichi is still 16 in the manga. Also, the Conan Drill Character Guide Book from 2003 also gives Shinichi's age as 16.k11chi wrote:The anime got him as 17 after the first movie which was quite a while after that part, wouldn't be surprised if he's 17 now.jimmy_kud0_tv2 wrote:The manga has him at age 16, the anime is what has him at 17.kkuuddoo wrote:We really don't now if she had said something or not, as we aren't sure if she heard the 19 - 20 years of the tape. Maybe shiho stopped at 18 because its how old she is, as she said to shinichi she was older then him by a year, and he is currently 17, so thats my guess, she might not have heard them, and as you said, Elena might have not mentioned that, depending on her situation and what she was thinking of back thenAICHAN wrote: On a side note,Helena could have said on her tapes to Shiho that she had a sister out there,it would have been a more shocking revelation than what we had during the MT case.If Helena knew she was going to die,it would have been a smart move to mention that there is family who could help Akemi and Ai.
One of the SDB books has Gosho saying that Shiho is 18, but that it is supposed to be a secret. (I guess Conan didn't believe her when she told him her age back at the beginning, and Conan wasn't there when she reverted back to normal in "Reunion with the BO")

But while Gosho said that Shinichi's birthday is canon now, he didn't say that his birthday has actually passed. Plus, he said in 2003 that he wants to do a manga story about Shinichi's birthday (as well as Ran's and Heiji's birthday) and since no full year has passed since Tropical Land, it has to be Shinichi's seventeenth birthday, so no, Gosho won't just say that Shinichi is seventeen now (and certainly not because "of how big the movies are" lol!)k11chi wrote:Yeah but chances are that Gosho will now say so because of how big the movies are. Yes he would. He also said he wants a Kaito movie with Takagi and Sato's wedding, but is bothered of not getting it into the manga.Serinox wrote:But while Gosho said that Shinichi's birthday is canon now, he didn't say that his birthday has actually passed. No, he said that Moive 14 was supposed to be about their wedding with Kaitou Kid intermingling, but that he couldn't do that story in the manga anymore, if that was the case (probably because it would be too confusing), so they changed the story of the movie. So that's an example of Gosho saying/doing something, despite how popular the movies are, not because of it.k11chi wrote:Yes he would. My point is that were he to do it all it'd take is just have the wedding be off paneled in the manga.Serinox wrote:No, he said that Moive 14 was supposed to be about their wedding with Kaitou Kid intermingling, but that he couldn't do that story in the manga anymore, if that was the case (probably because it would be too confusing), so they changed the story of the movie. Technically, he could have everything happen off-panel, even if that everything wasn't in a movie, but he isn't a bad author (despite popular opinion) who would do something stupid like that.k11chi wrote:My point is that were he to do it all it'd take is just have the wedding be off paneled in the manga.Serinox wrote:No, he said that Moive 14 was supposed to be about their wedding with Kaitou Kid intermingling, but that he couldn't do that story in the manga anymore, if that was the case (probably because it would be too confusing), so they changed the story of the movie. If Shinichi's birthday would've passed because of Movie 1, he would've said so already, since the movie is soon to be 19 years old.

I don't think a timeline can really be established until DC ends, and even then, there'd be problems unless Gosho decided to retcon them, which he won't, since he probably doesn't really think about an in-depth timeline. He only really decided that the period between the flashback portion of 882–884 and the "present" portion of 882–884 is less than a year, with the former likely being a week to a few weeks before the events of File 1.Serinox wrote:If Shinichi's birthday would've passed because of Movie 1, he would've said so already, since the movie is soon to be 19 years old.
As for Shinichi's birthday, it's really up to Gosho—he could easily pick May 4th. While I don't think he will, it's certainly possible.
“Life is infinitely stranger than anything which the mind of man could invent. We would not dare to conceive the things which are really mere commonplaces of existence. If we could fly out of that window hand in hand, hover over this great city, gently remove the roofs, and and peep in at the queer things which are going on, the strange coincidences, the plannings, the cross-purposes, the wonderful chains of events, working through generations, and leading to the most outre results, it would make all fiction with its conventionalities and foreseen conclusions most stale and unprofitable.”
