Masumi's surname

Masumi Sera belongs to the Akai Family right? yet why is it that her surname is Sera? Can anyone provide an explanation for this? ^^

Akai is the father family name.(which Shuiichi the FBI use) Sera is the mother family name.(Which the middle brother and Masumi use sometime after the father dies) later, the middle brother change to different family name as well.

But why did Masumi changed her surname to Sera after her father died?
