Re: Discussion Thread: Detective Conan Files 894-???: Scarlet Series!
He may be making a reference to James Bond, but Ian Flemming, the original author of the books, was an agent in MI6. It's also called the Secret Intelligence Service. It's the British Military Intelligence service section that deals specifically with foreign threats to the UK. The term 00 is a shorthand for a licence to kill, which was also a term popularized by Ian Flemming's stories and their adaptations.Chekhov MacGuffin wrote:Amuro was making a reference to James Bond. So now we're left with a curious question, to the theories that relate to Amuro being a double agent for another organization: What was Amuro talking about when referring to misconceptions? Conan thought Amuro was PSIA because of the reference to 0. It can either be a reference to the PSIA's nickname or the 00 associated with MI6 in popular culture or having a license to kill.
Now, before we get off on theories relating to MI6, I decided to check a bit about the eligibility standards of the organization in question. Among other things, you have to be a British citizen and have lived in the country for a majority of the past ten years, you have to be at least 21 at the time of applying (like the FBI and unlike the CIA), you must pass the background check, and you must pass the medical examinations and drug tests.
Still, until we get more information, I'm not quite leaning toward the MI6 theory just yet.
Sorry if this is worded poorly. I'm still a tad tipsy.

Apparently MI6 is so secret that half the people in this thread thought it was fictional? Um, okay then.
(FYI, while Fleming certainly had connections with MI6 and several other spy agencies around the world (as he was part of the Naval Intelligence Division when that was a thing), I don't think he was ever an agent for MI6. If you can find sources to refute this however, please do say ^^.)
EDIT: I don't know enough to say how true the 00 thing is though. Might look it up at some point.

Admittedly, MI6 wasn't confirmed as existing to the general public until 1994 and most peoples' exposure to it is through the James Bond series.Stopwatch wrote:Apparently MI6 is so secret that half the people in this thread thought it was fictional? Um, okay then.

My mistake about Flemming.
I'm not sure about the 00 thing either and I haven't found a source yet. There is a concept regarding certain field agents being able to kill, but I don't know if it gets the 00 designation. Some people do mention over here (http://www.mi6community.com/index.php?p ... al-life/p1), though, that MI6 is pretty restrictive about firearm use and possession, along with how agents don't have the power of arrest. Agents abroad are allowed firearms. Amuro is in Japan, though, so he'd have issues with restrictions on handguns, especially if he was deep undercover, at least in terms of anyone who does care about the firearm law knowing about his possession of a firearm.
Though, in all honestly, the fact that Amuro is the character named after Amuro Ray amuses me, assuming we go with the MI6 idea: MI6's crest has a unicorn on it and Amuro Ray had the nickname "the white unicorn." (As for the issue of the hatred of the FBI, when I tried googling about an MI6/FBI rivalry, I got a bunch of conspiracy theory results instead of actual information and stuff about the CIA and MI6, so...)

They're lucky it's such an obscure, arthouse franchise or else they'd have never been able to keep a lid on it.PhantomWriter wrote:Admittedly, MI6 wasn't confirmed as existing to the general public until 1994 and most peoples' exposure to it is through the James Bond series.

Taking the idea of Amuro being MI6/SIS a bit further, wouldn't it be funny if one of the main reasons that he's so good at tennis, is because he spent time training with Minerva or her coach Ares Ashley in England? If I recall correctly, I think Minerva spent time in Japan when she was younger as well.

If we really wanted to nit-pick as well, in the cold-goods delivery truck file, Amuro says "What are you lot doing in there". that could've been a possible big hint, if the DC series was originally in English. ..Malt wrote:If we really wanted to nit-pick as well, in the cold-goods delivery truck file, Amuro says "What are you lot doing in there". Of course, that could just mean that the translator is British, or it could be something said in Japan often; I don't know much about the Japanese language.Spoiler:

Huh. And I was talking to some friends and they were wondering if he is possibly CIA.
Honestly, there seems to now be several theories floating about and I need some time to think and to research.
