Re: What's the identity of Rum?
Now, it is possible that code names are recycled, and this Rum isn't the same one from 17 years ago. But that's unlikely.

Though I m fine with the age but i still don't think RUM to be skinny..!!Swagnarok wrote:By "disguise business", I simply mean that he still goes around disguising himself to serve the purposes of the Black Organization. If he was the old man in the "Camel screws up everything for Shuichi" incident, then he was still a master of disguise just a few years ago.jimmy_kud0_tv2 wrote:So you are assuming that he/she was at least 18 years old at the time of the Haneda Kouji case? Why do you think that he/she would be in the disguise business?Swagnarok wrote:Now that this thread has been bumped, I guess there's nothing wrong with me inserting my ten cents.
Profile of Rum: Skinny (assuming that he's still in the disguise business), short to medium height, at least 35 years old. I'll be happy to explain.
In Detective Conan, one of the rules of disguising oneself as another person is that you can't be fatter/bulkier or taller than said person. This is why Irish could only disguise himself as that one big guy, and why Kaito Kid can't disguise himself as a member of the Detective Boys (that one time with Genta being the exception rather than the rule).
It's unreasonable to assume that a child or adolescent would commit an act of murder, so 18 seems to be a good minimum age for him 17 years ago.
Yes, it's actually a plus point of being skinny that way yoy can put up fake fat and no worries where the inverse is very, very difficult.
But going by the fact IF and IF RUM was the bodyguard of Amanda, I don't think he/she would be skinny: you need muscular strength at least to be a bodyguard... I might be wrong, though.
And, besides, if back then he/she was disguised then the chances of being living in a disguise are low: if you get caught you have to come up with a new disguise! Assuming he/she is a master of disguise, that is.
There always a different side of a coin.
Let's see.

Reason: Your wording was hard to understand: and it was built up in one paragraph plus too many exclamation marks. Let us expose each point step by step, shall we?

Re: What's the identity of Rum?
Well, I´ll try to continue the discussion in the 974-file-thread right here.
" The other thing that quite bothers me is that her behaviour towards Conan is EXACTLY like Vermouth. That smile at the end, trying to protect him at all cost etc. This could be a coincidence but I've an intuition that it isn't."
Now thats an interesting thought.
I already mentioned that i somehow had the feeling the phrase "Are you ready to depart this world?"which Rumi used had been used by Gin or someone from the black org either.
Well.. whats if Wakasa Rumi / Vermouth is the "Scar-Akai" from the Rum-Arc?
It also cant be forgotten that Mary was compared to Haibara 941. This has to have some meaning aswell.

Someone brought up the idea in the 972-974-file-thread.
Well... after giving it some thought i still think that Rumi is Kohjis Girlfriend/Wife whatever, due to her fighting skills.

Re: What's the identity of Rum?
I think the chef Kanenori Wakita (latest Rum suspect) will be the LAST on the list. It would be awesome if all the Rum Suspects will be gathered at one point/case:
Kansuke Yamato - Man, Cane like an Old Man, Ponytail like a Woman, Eye scar
Sakurako Yonehara - Woman, involvement
Mary/MG - Woman, Man's Strength, Old
Hyoue Kuroda - Man, Old, Artificial eye(?)
Rumi Wakasa - Name, Woman, Man's Strength, Old
Principal Ryujiro UeMatsu - Man, Old, Long hair like Woman (suddenly cut short in his last sudden appearance), Closed eyes
Kanenori Wakita - Man, Old, Eye-patch

I've also seen some people mention Inspector Momose, I wonder whether he will come back any time soon.
I hope that I can find someway to contribute to the community even if it's just random crack theories and looking things up for people who can't find the information they need.

Unless Gosho is straight-up BSing us (AC Hints – 9/10/14: " Kan-chan has nothing to do with Rum;" 9/17/14: Kan-chan is not Rum ^^), Kansuke's not Rum. He's seen Shiho/Ai (File 680–File 681/Episode 557).
Sakurako's seen Shiho/Ai twice (File 847–File 849/Episode 731–Episode 732 and File 918–File 920/Episode 814–Episode 815).
That would imply Mary killed Amanda and Koji (File 953, Page 16, Panel 3 – Gin: "[The Koji Haneda case] was a job Rum screwed up 17 years ago..."), which then led to Tsutomu's presumed death.
Is she still giving orders as the BO's number two, as she hides in a hotel room with Masumi, or did she betray them, leading to her getting the APTX and going into hiding? It can't be the former—she knows about both Shiho/Ai and Shinichi/Conan... especially about Shinichi/Conan (including the voice-changing bow-tie and that he's using Kogoro to solve cases). If it's the latter, then Rum is no longer the BO's number two—she'd be just like Shiho/Ai, now... people will just love that repetition.
Spoiler:
He's seen Shiho/Ai, and he was principal when Shinichi/Conan really was a 7-year-old—he'd recognize him immediately.
It was strange to me that Gosho made him the keyhole character of Volume 85—and with his appearance at the beginning of the year (File 945–File 947), he's no longer a one-case character. I'll be looking out for him in Shukichi's next appearance.
Inspetor Momose sometimes keeps just one eye open, while mainly keeping both closed, just like Heizo. However, unlike Heizo, he's seen Shiho/Ai... twice (File 384–File 386/Episode 312–Episode 313 and File 690–File 692/Episode 571–Episode 572).
So here's my shortlist:
Heizo Hattori
Taka'aki Morofushi/Koumei
Chikara Katsumata
Kanenori Wakita
Hyoue Kuroda
Hyoue is on my list—in spite of the insane levels of red-herringness he exudes—because...
A. Because one of the gaps in his memory, caused by the accident, could be what Shiho/Sherry looked like at age 7
or
B. Because he was Rum... as in, the Pre-Coma, black-haired Hyoue Kuroda was Rum, but Post-Coma Hyoue Kuroda —the white-haired one we've seen in File 913–File 917/Episode 810–Episode 812 and File 920/Episode 815—is, in fact, Tsutomu Akai, who replaced the real Hyoue, the real Rum, sometime after the accident... and this way is, as I see it, the only way Tsutomu can be Rum—by impersonating him
Option B would allow for Post-Coma Hyoue/Tsutomu to be Rei's/Toru's boss at the NPA; Option A would mean that Hyoue/Rum is not Rei's/Toru's boss at the NPA, because if he was, he'd know that Bourbon is a NOC.

Rumi has seen Shiho/Ai, and is very much focused on Shinichi/Conan (and is also aware that he can use tranquilizer darts).Spoiler:

I'm hoping it's Heizo. He fits in terms of intelligence and I really like the thought of this development forcing Heiji into the BO plot!
Ofc,...It's probably more likely that he is one of the newer characters(if we don't get a new suspect, which is still very much possible)

And so we would have Heiji fighting againt or alongside Conan. I wonder which one would be better.
Although, the idea of real Rum being in coma and Tsutomu replacing him could work. Like father, like son. Since Shuichi can do miracles on a stick, I'm pretty sure Tsutomu can do them too. Since it's been years since Hyoue fell into coma, he can use this as excuse as of why he doesn't remember things. People from the BO also long ago forgot all the details about Rum. Ideal situation for Tsutomu to infiltrate the BO. Wonder how people would like this idea.

Heiji's issue, in that scenario, would be if he could go against his father, because this would be far beyond what happened in the Tiger Scroll case (File 317–File 321/Episode 263)—he wouldn't lose his sense of justice and turn against Shinichi/Conan, but he'd probably have trouble dealing with the fact that his father's been on the wrong side all this time.Nemomon wrote:And so we would have Heiji fighting againt or alongside Conan. I think people would be opposed to it mainly because they think Gosho would execute it poorly... and also because he went and wrote that postcard (2015 – "Akai's father is already... it's a secret (laughs)."), thus telegraphing a twist to us.

Re: What's the identity of Rum?
Yeah, people since a long time think that whatever Gosho does, he already could do that twice better. And if they hear that No. 2 in the BO is also a rat, they will start screaming. But not the first time, and probably not the last time. For me that setting would be great because Conan and co. would get a strong ally, and an ally that would show them where Anokata is.DCUniverseAficionado wrote:Heiji's issue, in that scenario, would be if he could go against his father, because this would be far beyond what happened in the Tiger Scroll case (File 317–File 321/Episode 263)—he wouldn't lose his sense of justice and turn against Shinichi/Conan, but he'd probably have trouble dealing with the fact that his father's been on the wrong side all this time.Nemomon wrote:And so we would have Heiji fighting againt or alongside Conan. I also think that Heiji would team with Conan if Heizo would turn out to be Rum. But I wonder... from what we seen so far the BO members, especially the codenamed ones, do not start families, have wives snd children. Would be really odd for Rum/Heizo to have Heiji.
And - "Akai's father is already... Rum in disguise". Fits well
