Spoiler:
Since it's a Heiji case do you think Momiji might show up again? There's not so much time to the premiere of the movie too. If so, then probably just for few frames, but still. Maybe she's going to be at the tournament herself? Although I doubt that possibility.
And do you think Okita will have a bigger role in the case? Like, help with some deductions? I didn't read the Yaiba series so I don't really know him. Or is he just gonna be another character who looks like Shinichi?
And if Heiji invited Conan for lunch, what case might he have for him? (Because we all know that he wouldn't just invite Conan without any reason.)
So I hope it will be a good time, here on DCTP. :)
Spoiler:
That all depends on how Gosho wants to do it. Okita is like Kaito Kid so he should have a role in the case. In the past when he had no role he was just mentioned but now he's actually introduced, so I find it hard to see Gosho not keep him around until the case is over.

Kan Kōhi wrote:Awesome, Okita is back - just recently I talked with another user about Gosho including references to his one-shots, the early Magic Kaitou or Yaiba, among other stuff, during his anniversary and that Okita didn't appear in a long time (while Gosho didn't rule out to eventually bring him back; early this year he did so again, while musing that he attends the same school Momiji goes to) - and there he is. :D I really wouldn't have thought that he's the "swordman" announced at the end of the previous chapter.

For everyone not in the know about Okita (or everyone interested in random trivia trash like me):

Image

Soshi Okita is, as some already know, originally a character from Yaiba (volume 24, chapter 248 - 250) - the second to last one the protagonist Yaiba Kurogane encounters in the tournament during the final arc of the Manga. Short summary of his debut:
Spoiler:
Yaiba Kurogane takes part in a colorful fighting tournament on a skull-shaped island (no King Kong around, sorry), which is organized by some guy named Shirogane and the company named after him. Yaiba is accompanied by his little sister Moroha, his best friend Sayaka Mine and the samurai Musashi Miyamoto, who's around 300 years old. After winning against his friendly rival Jubei Yagyu, Yaiba and his friends walk through a kind of forest-like surrounding on the island, where Yaiba trips over Okita's legs, who's sleeping there in the grass - like he always does to brace himself for the next battle. Heiji Hattori also mentions this in volume 31 of Detective Conan, because he had seen Okita sleeping in the grass behind the hall.

Image

Well, Yaiba and Okita soon realize that they are the next opponents and good ol' Okita beats the hell out of little Yaiba. Okita's fighting style (and probably his clothes) remind Musashi of the Shinsengumi and Okita confirms that he's the direct descendant of Soji Okita - the leader of the samurai protection force back then - and proves that his parents are really creative people when it comes to names.

Image

Unperturbed by this, Okita still makes short work of Yaiba, who seems like he's just a few inches away from biting the dust - but doesn't give up despite this (memories of Goku are coming up...). Just when Yaiba tries to attack the confused Okita to finally land a strike, Okita stops him. Yaiba and his friends learn that Okita didn't really want to be a Kendoka, but he had to, because it's more like a family duty. After watching Yaiba struggle until the bitter end, he feels inspired to continue Kendo and meet Yaiba again in the future for a rematch, when he's gotten better. Okita technically surrenders, effectively getting Yaiba into the final battle of the tournament.

Image
By the way, it's extremely doubtful that the tournament in Yaiba is the one mentioned in Detective Conan (where Heiji got his scar behind the ear), even though Heiji's name can be seen on the board with the contestants. (Firstly, according to this table, Okita and this "H. Hattori" didn't even meet and secondly, it's very probable that the name back then was an allusion to Hanzo Hattori, which perhaps retroactively became a "crossover" by Okita and Heiji knowing each other.) This is probably the point where Gosho's description of "parallel worlds" comes into play anyway, just like with Detective Conan und Magic Kaitou. :D

By the way: Nice to see how Okita analyzes the corpse. :D I really hope he isn't becoming a hobby detective, too. XD
Perfectly summarized.

Spoiler:
Momiji doesn't necesarily have to appear, I'd say, since she already appeared recently.

And Heiji is taking part in the tournament and invited Conan to lunch but Conan inwardly thinks that he should be more concerned about his upcoming match. So he didn't come to Tokyo for a case but for the kendo tournament.

Also, a point to note is that the culprit is wearing the same kendo armor that Okita's school group wears so it's possible it's someone that Okita knows of.

He looks much older in the current case. Was he also 16/17 in Yaiba ?

Spoiler:
I'm pretty sure that Momiji either already appears in 990 or will during the rest of the case, because 990 has those recap/introduction text for her character and for her butler as well. People who don't appear in the file usually don't get those afaik

Spoiler:
Given that the case basically serves as movie 21 promo, it would make more sense to have her and the butler be involved.

My problem with Momiji appearing is that she's supposed to meet Heiji in the movie right? It would make sense if she were to appear in the next case instead. Maybe a scene somewhere about her going to where Heiji is in this one?

If they don't meet in this case, Gosho can't just have them meet in Movie 21, then, in the next case they appear in, reference the events of the movie—Movie 21 will be as non-canon as the others.

They're either going to meet in this case, or in the next case where they both appear.
“Life is infinitely stranger than anything which the mind of man could invent. We would not dare to conceive the things which are really mere commonplaces of existence. If we could fly out of that window hand in hand, hover over this great city, gently remove the roofs, and and peep in at the queer things which are going on, the strange coincidences, the plannings, the cross-purposes, the wonderful chains of events, working through generations, and leading to the most outre results, it would make all fiction with its conventionalities and foreseen conclusions most stale and unprofitable.”

They're either going to meet in this case, or in the next case where they both appear.
Considering that the movie will arguably reveal them meet for the first time as teens(and Anime-timeline-wise, the movie happens before Nue case), it means that during their "first meeting" in the manga, Gosho is planning on making Heiji and Kazuha already know her.
(By extension, I'm gonna assume that Momiji is gonna immediately be vocal about her feelings for Heiji during their manga meeting[so that Heiji and Kazuha won't have to recall or act as if M21 happened])

Hmm...I think Gosho is using foreshadowing again with this..."second to last"? If Momiji appears in this episode with Rum...oops I mean Iori ;) I think that is a sign from him and not just simply giving them an appearance cause the movie is about to come out.

We were given these parallels in past episodes when Wakita and Rumi were involved in a chapter. Both were "Yaiba" references. When Wakita was in the chapter, the Yaiba reference was in regards to "the closest subordinate to the boss appears!" and then with Rumi i forget the exact words but something about a female hero or something

Gosho will probably adapt the meeting of the movie in the manga, and branch out to elsewhere from there on. If that's going to happen it will be weird for them to meet before the movie is out.
For now the meeting in the movie is definitely going to be the one where they meet. Or maybe Momiji's purpose in the story is done for after the movie. If that's the case then there's nothing to branch out to, but we'll see about that (considering this year is Heiji and Kazuha themed...)

Question: Is this new case with Okita supposed to be a single manga chapter long?
