That might mean three weeks then since DCUniverseAficionado mentioned the file and not the spoilers.

I sort of don't feel like rewriting my thoughts from the cbox in a more proper manner, so I'll just copy/paste them with slight editing.
"I've seen him a lot in TV shows and commercials before" - Gosho likes to remind us why Yumi having no clue about Shuukichi's job has to be super convenient I guess.
So... did Gosho completely forget he had Yumi say she threw the envelope away back in 899, or are we supposed to assume Yumi lied? How are we supposed to reconcile with this contradiction?
Based on this file, on a previous date she asked him what he'd do if she lost it, but I thought it was established they didn't see each other after he gave it to her.
Here's a pretty major problem with this whole romance and character. Shuukichi was a total drama queen over how he constantly makes people wait back in file 900, so what did he do with that resolution? Apparently nothing, not even bring up his job and success in the several times they've apparently met since then.

Maybe she did lie and she happened to forget it somewhere so she just decided to say she threw it away? Would she really actually throw something like that away is the question I guess.

She was probably annoyed at him for calling her out just to ask about the envelope—plus, she said she was going to tear it up in his face if it was something she didn't like, and was adamant that he wouldn't fill out a marriage registration form ("Nah, no way... not that guy!"), before finding out he indeed had.Kor wrote:So... did Gosho completely forget he had Yumi say she threw the envelope away back in 899, or are we supposed to assume Yumi lied? Him being a drama queen during that file/case would've been him incessantly talking about the whole thing and bemoaning to the detective boys to the point of, at least, annoying Shinichi/Conan and Shiho/Ai. That didn't happen.Kor wrote:Here's a pretty major problem with this whole romance and character. I suppose he wanted her to find out by opening the envelope. He didn't say, when he handed the envelope to her, "I'll tell you why."

I love Yumi. She even makes romance fun.

You decided to focus on something completely superficial, so let me bold for you the truly important part:DCUniverseAficionado wrote: Him being a drama queen during that file/case would've been him incessantly talking about the whole thing and bemoaning to the detective boys to the point of, at least, annoying Shinichi/Conan and Shiho/Ai. That didn't happen.
When characters realize something about themselves and how their actions affected others, it's sort of expected that they'd do something with this new found knowledge and fix themselves (IE character development). Shuukichi doesn't do squat, though. Here's a pretty major problem with this whole romance and character. Shuukichi was a total drama queen over how he constantly makes people wait back in file 900, so what did he do with that resolution? Apparently nothing, not even bring up his job and success in the several times they've apparently met since then.
With such supposition, you gotta wonder if Shuukichi truly wants to marry her and be with her in the first place. If Shuukichi's under the impression Yumi threw away the envelope, what exactly remained for him to do? "I want to marry her but only if she finds out about it in the exact manner I want her to." - that's the basic implication of your supposition.DCUniverseAficionado wrote: I suppose he wanted her to find out by opening the envelope. He didn't say, when he handed the envelope to her, "I'll tell you why."
And hey, at this point, it might even be true, considering Shuukichi met her a few times since the Shogi case, and didn't seem to advance anything. He's the one who wants to marry her, but he's been behaving in a completely passive manner. There's nothing worse than a character that wants something but doesn't act to get it. The way Shuukichi has been behaving and written, there's truly no reason to root for him (other than wanting this romance plot to end).

If he doesn't, then why did he even bother? Why even fill out a marriage form in advance?Kor wrote:With such supposition, you gotta wonder if Shuukichi truly wants to marry her and be with her in the first place.DCUniverseAficionado wrote:I suppose he wanted her to find out by opening the envelope. I guess the needless secret-keeping between the central plot players has spread... though, if Shukichi gets involved in the plot upon official confirmation of him being the middle brother, he'll become a central plot player, and, will just be doing what the others have been doing since the Kir arc and really got to it with the Bourbon arc.
Well, for your sake (and for all those who are weary of it), I hope it ends with this case, then.Kor wrote:There's nothing worse than a character that wants something but doesn't act to get it. Re: Discussion Thread: Detective Conan 945-94X
Serious question, what do you think would have happened if Yumi had outright rejected Shuukichi instead of relapsing into a relationship? Shuukichi I think is the most oblivious romance partner detached from appropriate social standards of dating so far, topping Shiratori (creeper who didn't know when to quit), Sato (oblivious), Chiba (oblivious), and Heiji (oblivious and stubborn). Do you think Shuukichi would try to persist anyway and become a stalker?
My feeling is yes, because Shuukichi has a one track mind. I don't think he would be able to get over Yumi so easily. He tends to seize on something he thinks is a good idea and then follow it to the bitter end, like how he got his idea to capture all the Shogi titles from a single offhand comment Yumi made. (This tendency is not unlike his older brother and his missions I guess. Masumi seems to be only semi-reasonable one in this family.) I don't think he really considered Yumi's feelings when he handed her that envelope and went radio silent. He did it because he thought it would be appropriate or impressive. To his credit, it seems to be working, but if he had misjudged Yumi just a little, or she had found another man to love...
I kind of wish we had a normal criminal case that would explore this idea. An intelligent but obsessed guy using a Moriarty-like strategy to get his girl back, a girl who can't adequately defend herself because she can't match his intelligence. It doesn't even have to be a murder, just a Kogoro case where the girl comes to the agency pleading her case that no one else will believe.
