I cant seem to understand after many days. I understand that Amuro's organization (what Conan think) is called Zero right? But I don't understand how the word appendix mean. Would someone be kind to explain it in different words again? Is it about kanji? Sorry.

The idea is that the public security bureau (PSB)/Public Security Intelligence Agency (PSIA) has the nicknames "Zero" and "Appendix". It got nicknamed "zero" because it is supposed to be secretive (think zero presence), and the PSB part of the PSIA was called an "appendix" by certain politicians who thought it was a useless waste of funds, sort of like how an appendix is supposed to not be useful to the human gut.

Amuro: It seems you have misunderstood my stories...
Conan: Mis...understood...?

PAGE 3

Conan: How was it a misunderstanding? That sharp intellect which could instantly perceive the truth... His behavior of not killing Haibara on the Bell Tree Express... His reaction to the word "Zero"... And then what made me so certain was him openly ribbing the FBI...
[Flashback of Amuro: "Get out of my Japan..."]
Conan: The so called "Zero" was a code-name created for the "Non-existent Organization" [not sure if I got the term correctly], whose purpose is to maintain Japan's security...

PAGE 4

Conan: The Public Security Intelligence Agency... [not sure if I got the term correctly]
If he's really an undercover agent infiltrating the Org., then we can provide him with the information we have, that way we'll probably be able to evade the worst situations... But if that's not the case... Then that plan will be discovered!!
Wait, I must calm down... It may not have been discovered just yet... There's still one thing that he hasn't learned... In order to get hold of this info, he may set up some kind of trick... But what can it be?

thnx chek, that helped even me to understand the concept of the appendix, i remember when i was reading the chapter when amuro mentioned that, and I was like "what is conan reacting to?", "is it the topic of the appendix discussion or is it simply because amuro was investigating akai's "death"? Couldn't get anything from the appendix stuff since I'm not japanese
