Wow, this played out the way Desperate Revival did: first a masked return (as in Shinichi's there, but he's obscured somehow), then a stretched out romance aspect and case, and finally a transform back following after a "almost found out, but not quite" moment with Ran.

I doubt Gosho would get away with using this same pattern the next Shinichi makes a return sometime in the distant future(and hopefully by then, the story'll be wrapping up).  This second time was predictable enough. :\

Thank you for spoilers, though.  I'm a tad disappointed with this tie-in case (Files 652 to 654) because 646 to 651 was quite a thrill-ride, but I can't say I didn't see it coming.  It just sticks in my crawl when the inevitable finally happens and the disappointment hits me.

Ah, shonen romances.  They never develop much, do they?

if you say "Shinichi is stupid" you forget, that he is just typical japanese in his behaviour. And that's just logical for a Japanese Manga. You can't messure his behaviour with the one of western people.

Ran and Shinichi are childhood friends. Of course it takes longer, especially in the hard situation Shinichi is in...

It makes me wonder if the only reason Dr.Agasa is there was to monitor Jimmy, why Jimmy kept holding Ran's hand after he turned back into Conan, and why at the end of the chapter Haibara told Ran you have nothing to regret. I hope they have new information on the Black Organization and Jimmy/Conan has finally decided to tell Ran how he feels and what is going on.

Ok, I'll agree that Shinichi is stupid: he wasted all his time!!!!!!!!

But we all must remember: He's a detective first, boyfriend second.    He can't stand to see a crime unsolved (remember the first ep, when he and Ran meet on the way to school, and he says something like, "...Cornering them, then delivering the final blow, seeing the look on their face: its so much fun!!"?). (Ok, he didn't say EXACTLY that but I don't remember dialogue well enough to relate his words verbatim...) And to top it all off, he still has too much pride to let Heiji just give the deduction for him.

What?? I really liked this!!! Gosho finished the long file with this, it's really nice you know. I like all of Detective Conan, no matter what Gosho writes. He is still the one who made Conan you know

you need to reread the last few pages of file 655 if you didn't understand how Shinichi "escaped" -- its laid out implicitly, but very well -- really made me laugh at how stubborn Ran is (even unconscious Ran!!)

Yeah that was cute. Her stubbornness made the ending even cuter. It's real nice especially if you can make out the picture behind them. The picture showed how Shinichi escaped (file 654 where Haibara was thinking "that's because I put you to sleep...")

ah well, i was expecting more from them 2 but that ending would do for now.
Actually this shows DC would go on for quite some time, but i probably expect the Head of BO to show some appearance between now and the next time Conan turns back to Shinichi.
