I'm still not entirely sure on whether to bother with different threads for the "important" episodes, but someone suggested just having one big AO thread. I agree entirely. Just a thread to discuss (mostly) recent AOs because they almost never deserve individual threads anyway.

It says a lot that I almost forgot about this. AOs are so unimportant they might as well not exist. So how about this one?

40 seconds in, the relevant to the case naming scheme is inevitable. IT IS INEVITABLE, YOU CANNOT ESCAPE IT. GUNDAM REFERENCES AS THE CENTER OF THE PLOT?!-ok I'll stop.

I honestly forgot for a second that there was another Opening after this one that I had already seen quite a bit. Damn, there's too many openings.

So a close-up of her nails-AHH! Oh god my eyes. What is with the bright light, I can barely see them!

Honestly, while I can't say its a particularly great case, I'm surprised at how creative it is or at least is trying to be. I'm not sure if I can call it a good case yet, but the case is at least very interesting, which gets bonus points from me. Also, while it is ultimately pointless, at least there's a "recurring character is in trouble" scenario potentially, and it isn't even the character who knows karate this time. Basically, I appreciate this case more than I actually like it.

and yeah you can discuss whatever AO you want is the idea. I only have 1 rule (guidelines would be more accurate I suppose) for this. Try to keep the discussion on AOs from the past few months, mainly fairly recently subbed episodes. Some older AO discussion is fine but I want the focus to still be on the latest episodes, even if that might be difficult at points.

So to sum up slider's post then:

669-670 was torture, and it felt like a rehash of 136-137 not done as well.

^ This. Plus with the new palette of colours and the new tracks it just doesn't feel the same and falls flat.

this still makes it better than most AOs of the past 5+ years tbh

Agree. Certainly not an outstanding case, but mildly more interesting than most because it is breaking the norm of most AOs.

Well, it was written by an actual mystery writer, Masaki Tsuji...

I'd almost like to believe they mostly stopped trying again because the plot came back so they didn't have to. That's almost certainly completely wrong, but I like that theory.

I think that theory's plausible

I mean, look at the AOs in the first half of the 600s,when the plot was still halted, and the second half,when the plot started up again. Talk about a noticeable decrease in quality. And now we are stuck in a SEVEN episode AO streak, mostly one parters. It's almost unbearable. They should stick to two or three parters or do nothing at all. One parters shouldn't exist unless they're something fun like episode 225. Otherwise, leave the mystery writing to Gosho.

As for this AO, the first part and the first half of the second part were very enjoyable, but the conclusion, quite frankly, was lacking and sort of dumb. Really, the best AO recently was the Mystery Tour, and even that had issues.

If only we could have another AO case like 603-605, because that was really good.

I only hope there are almost no AOs after this for the rest of the year, aside from the Mystery Tour. We haven't been getting any manga cases for awhile. Hopefully the upcoming ones will make up for this AO-filled period of the year (and if the new opening is anything to go by, it should be soon, hopefully.)

There's a decent 2 part AO coming up followed by a 225-like one part AO (due to the fact that it's actually the 7th magic file linked to movie 17).

Anyways, the best AOs are mystery tours - well, definitely not in term of the crime itself, but I just like how it explores Japan.. The worst AOs are really bad 1-parters. I can't stand DB AOs, no offense to DB fans, but the DB ones make me cringe, but they haven't done BO AOs in awhile so that's a relief.

I like a few from the past 1/2 year:

Suspicious Inital K - Although it was kind of obvious to me who the killer was, I enjoyed it nonetheless. It's okay.
Cactus Capricco - I actually found it a decent AO o_O Good for AO standards, decent for normal episodes. An interesting method though.
The Unsolvable Frozen Trap - It was an interesting method and setting. Me likez da winter episodez
A Message From a Client - Like it. Love the shadow art thingy. The best AO in awhile IMO.
Roses in the Vineyard - Sharon Vineyard. It was okay.

But there are really hideous ones for the past while. I almost fell asleep during the Sumida River one and didn't even bother finish watching the missing sweets one. Those were my personal lows.

But the best AO will always be A Cursed Mask Coldly Laughs.

ok so raise your hands if you were surprised by the use of fun house mirrors. No one? Exactly.

I had forgotten about Kogoro's fear of heights until now.

You know what? I honestly liked this. I really did. More often than not AO cases are so meh and hyping dull, they're honestly a pain to watch. If they want to make more cases that are more ridiculous, I say that's ok, especially for filler. I'll take stupid over boring and mediocre every god damn day of the week.

I remember watching a 2-parter that was about this ghost who had died 3 years before. Christ.
