The anime affecting the manga?

Postby angelonline2 » October 4th, 2011, 1:00 am

I know that Inspector Shiratori first appeared in the first movie "The Time-Bombed Skyscraper" which came out in 1997 (though does anyone know the first EPISODE he appeared in?) while the first chapter he appeared in (209) didn't come out until 1998 (dates courtesy of detectiveconanworld.com).

And now most recently, in the latest Kid heist, Conan's conversation with Kid - how his mother played the role of Ryouma's Sister, Otome - seems to suggest that Kid knows Conan's real identity (after all, Shinichi isn't the type, nor is he so stupid, to so casually say something that revealing to someone he barely knows anything about) which has been movie canon since The Last Wizard of the Century (movie 3).

Both of these instances seem to suggest that the anime has had at least some affect on the original manga - something that I'm not aware of happening in any other series where an anime is based off of a manga series (and even if it HAS happened in other series, it's definitely rare).

Does anyone know any other instances where it looks like this occurred? And what's your opinion on the matter?

I personally think its pretty cool since it shows how closely Gosho Aoyama works with and/or follows the anime (at least the movies, I haven't read enough of the manga to be able to know if, or what, the animated series may have affected). It also opens possibilities plot-wise (esp. the 13th Movie). Not to mention that its just plain COOL to think that Conan/Shinichi really DID fly a helicopter and a plane (and a car temporarily :P), chase after Kaitou Kid in a para-glider and take down an entire group of armed mercenaries almost entirely on his own!!! Lol!

What do you guys think.

Oh look, it's midnight! I'm 23 now! Yay me!

It's possible - the manga isn't finished anyway yet.

kind of? He uses some anime stuff but outside of Takagi and Shiratori, it's never really been too important (and that was when the non-manga stuff was often really good btw).

Yamamura-keibu was a genius move all around though.

I like to think he lets them use stuff in the movies and OVAs he doesn't have time to do on his own.  The first movie was based off an old back up story.  I bet after the movie came out it took him till next year to think up a story to write Shiratori into.

Canon = Manga & Manga-based anime episodes
Non-canon = Movies and TV Originals, Live-Action (so far...)

Um....no. The title isn't misleading because I was referring to ANY of the animated versions of DC (meaning the main series, the movies, or the OVA's) having an effect on the original manga. I only used the examples I did because, having only read the first few volumes of the manga (and a few random chapter I was interested in), I don't know how the main series differs from the manga and therefore wouldn't be able to tell if anything in the animated series had an effect on the manga.

(I DID mention that in the first post - that's also why I asked if people knew of any instances besides what I mentioned)

I've seen all the movies and episodes (so far) though and because Shiratori appears in the movie before the series (and after quickly verify myself that he DOES appear in the manga) I knew that the movie had had an effect; the same thing goes for Kid knowing Conan is Shinichi. Ok?

Oh yeah...I remember reading somewhere that it was supposedly based off the ending Gosho Aoyama had had planned for Magic Kaito before Conan's popularity exploded and he had to put the MK on the back-burner? Though that still doesn't change the fact that it affected the main series - Aoyama didn't HAVE to write Shiratori into the DC manga, he could have just left him as a movie-only character.

Ah...I'd suspected that Takagi had gotten a bigger role due to the anime. I couldn't remember seeing him in the early volumes I'd read...let's see *looks it up* Whoa! He appeared in the anime 2 YEARS before showing up in the manga!? But what do you mean "when the non-manga stuff was good? Isn't it still?

I think you're mistaken. The first time Yamamura appeared was when Yukiko basically kidnapped Conan to visit a childhood friend when she'd had a fight with Yusaku (I rewatched that ep just last week so I'm sure - the image of Conan waking up on the motorcycle STILL disturbs me...) and I KNOW that episode was canon. I will admit though that watching him IS hilarious (so long as he doesn't appear too often, he'd just get annoying then). He makes [i]Kogoro[i] look intelligent! HOW he made inspector...*shivers*

kkslider didn't say that Yamamura wasn't introduced first in the manga. He said that him, becoming an inspector, was first of all in the movies, and later Gosho added that too to the manga.

Don't forget the telescopic glasses used in Movie 5! It showed up in the Unsmashable Snowman episode and the London arc, to name a few.

Kujo Reiko is still an anime-original and has made no appearance in the manga yet right?

and all 3 are pretty much entirely pointless (I mean, Chiba's the most notable and he is in (or would be in) the only case that never actually happened)
