With KaiShin it's a lot more movie-canon based, the anime team purposefully put in BL moments and ... it works. Even if it's not canon you can see the potential the pairing has and I think that's why people ship it or at least a big part of it.

The only thing I see between the two of them is a pending friendship- which CAN be taken out of context by yaoi fangirls. (I mean... LOOK at Ouran and Black Butler! XD)

But nevertheless, it's something perceived by the yaoi fangirls while AiCon is something perceived by... I don't even know. Just FANS. XD

@IHKF:I don't think all yaoi fans are girls, the majority doesn't represent the whole ...
Anyway, I'm saying that the movies begin to show how the KaiShin dynamic would work and the idea of 'lots of angst + related organisations = unbeatable combo' is often seized upon by fans. Plus they really like the detective vs thief stuff y'know. Personally, I can sort of see where the fans are coming from though I don't ship it myself.
EDIT: Fanfics play a pretty big role in it too.

Let's face reality here Prof, as an AiCon also, you and I both know that 80% of that thread is complete nonsense and offtopic.  (the same goes with any giant pairing thread, you simply just don't have that much to say to fill up 800 pages).

Also, Schillok is just trolling - he/she knows just as well as any other fan that there were obvious hints that Ai fancied Conan, especially in the first half of the series.  It's died down a lot though after the 345 climax, but, the whole Yukiko telling Shinichi she liked him and then their confrontation when they were sleeping together...it's obvious.  Gosho just wanted to add another romantic interest for Conan  , to spice things up and give false hope to readers that don't support ShinRan (basically a troll attempt to anyone who likes ConAi more).

Well. Yes.
Exactly, the size of a fan topic does not indicate how realistic a pairing is, just how many supporter it has. There is only so much that can be talked about, even for official pairings (like Ran x Shinichi). For fan-couples it becomes even less.

Err... no. However we had that discussion before. If you wanted you could find "proofs", you could find it for almost any pairing (as long as the characters interact often enough). Look, Haibara was about to kiss Genta here. She must be so in love with him.

Yes, but the point was that his example was of a thread that does have a lot of stuff, and even if half's or 1/3 is on topic enough then that's still pretty good.

Going back to Ayumi+Haibara.

Well, unfortunately there are as many proves for a romantic interaction between Ayumi and Ai as there are between Conan and Ai: None. (At least non which can be taken seriously.)
Which leaves this as a pairing in an awkward position - meaning that all support for the pairing comes from fanworks.

What remains are the friendship moments between Ayumi and Haibara which are... well, probably less exciting. Just like the Ran and Sonoko friendship, it is cute and everything but not that interesting to spend too much time on it.

I don't like the idea of Ayumi+Haibara as a romantic relationship. I was referring to fans of their friendship, and them two as characters in general. Yeah, their friendship moments aren't as interesting as most romantic pairings, but I don't think Ayumi and Haibara's friendship are as boring as Ran's and Sonoko's. Ran and Sonoko's character development is pretty boring unlike Haibara's. Haibara's past, involvement with the BO and current situation makes her character development interesting. And seeing Ayumi change her personality, and make her more open to friendships, and seeing Ai change is... cool.

What Schillok said, though I'll add some more onto why Ai + Ayumi can be an interesting pair. The thing is that this is Haibara, her having friends is ... unlikely and strange. The fact that Ayumi helps her open enough to even have 'friendship moments' is because of Ayumi's innocence and naivity and the fact that she won't give up in trying to make Haibara feel wanted. That alone makes for a good friendship and in the future a basis for something deeper ... Or something like that ...
