Why do so many people hate the Detective Boys?

I like children in real life however I dislike the way Genta is obsessed with food. My little cousin is a hearty eater but I don't think food is the only thing on his mind.

Look what they do in Two-Mix kidnap case. The fact that two-mix still forgive them and protect them from the police. The fact that all Conan can do is call them Baka and forget all about it afterward. They change Conan's plan just to give them glory and not for the outcome of the case.

Not to mention I don't like Genta's and Ayumi's voice in general. (and funnily, perfectly fine with Takagi's)

Now come to think of it ... possibly I'm on edge with Ayumi because I don't favour the thought of kids getting involved in romance at young age.

Well-behaved children don't bother me a bit. A lot of them are even cute. The ones that are constantly getting into things they shouldn't, being obnoxious brats and throwing fits over everything annoy me, but at the same time, I don't hate them, I just prefer not to be around them. And I blame their parents 100%, and generally feel bad for the child because until their parents start teaching them how to behave and such, nobody will want to be around them and they won't understand why.

(But that's a whole parenting argument right there, and not really the point of this thread, so... moving on.)

The Detective Boys... most of my dislike for them comes from their cases being boring. And Genta is just annoying.

That's a matter of opinion, I prefer DB material to most Kid cases (especially the recent ones) and the "Blue Castle Case" is better than a lot of BO cases.

The DB's "wild" actions almost got Conan and themselves killed many times, but that's their role in the series 

For me, I don't really mind Mitsuhiko; Ayumi does get annoying at times; but for Genta, he seriously gets on my nerves  >:(

I don't really hate Genta but most of Db's cases are annoying or boring or uninteresting so when I get the spoilers that they are in the next case I get an absolute Pvalov's dog reaction of Nooooo! Still I enjoy any case so this is mostly gratuitous bawing

They're 7 year olds. 7 year olds are not interesting as the focus of anything unless they act nothing like real 7 year olds. Why do you think most shonen has teenagers as the main characters?

I mean, I like them more than most but even then, the three 7 year olds appear more than anyone except Conan, Ran and maybe a couple of others. They appear more than far more popular characters like Kid and Heiji.

Well, I love the Detective Boys. All of  them, including Genta. (Though I guess I belong to that older age group.)
It's fun how most of the arguments against the DBs could be easily applied to most other character.
No story progression? Try a Heiji case, and you get a "random case" more often than with a DBs one. Ohh, and it will likely be followed by another non-canon case including Heiji. He is also prone to commit "wild" actions, facing suspected BO members (Jodie) or destroying evidence to a case (4 school detectives case) due to his rash judgement. Usually without having a back-up, like the DBs do with Conan or Haibara in case something goes wrong.
Not to mention his cases are boring. Usually constructed that complicated that it is almost impossible to solve the case yourself.
Yet, Heiji seems to be liked by the readers.

And seriously, why is Gentas "obsession with food" that much different from Shinichis/Conans obsession with cases?

Seeing from the other side (from the DBs view): Why did Conan change places with Ayumi?
Yes, he took the dangerous role, but why must it have been HIM doing it? He is just a kid, just like Ayumi. He could have stayed back, brought the glasses to the police to track Ayumis DBs badge, right?
The role switching had no particular reason, except to make him the hero again. And if he really were that worried about Ayumi: He could have stayed in contact with her with the badge all the time.


Yeah, what they were doing was a bit dangerous, but by far not as dangerous as what Conan was doing. At least they didn't try to confront the kidnappers directly and release the hostages all on themselves. If Heiji, Conan or even Kogoro had been in the same situation... they would have done the same.

If Conan and Ayumi switch place, will Conan try to find the culprit before contact the police? Or just go with the plan and give the glass to police. The point is not who switch with Ayumi, The point is why they don't give the glass to the police right away as Conan told.

By audiance POW. Conan is an adult. I would do the same if I am Conan. He know what's he doing. By DB POW, they're all kid so everyone should be equal. They (specific: Ayumi -sorry) did not tell Conan they want to change plan, then they endanger themself and Conan. Why can't they tell him first "why you have to take the spotlight again. Let me do it" IIRC. It's Genta who propose that they shoulkd find culprits (after Conan left) on their own first before contact police (If the one who propose are Ayumi or Mitsuhiko then I'm heart-broken)

Btw, only Conan have the same height as Ayumi (or the closest one) If one should do the double, it has to be Conan. Should we let a girl do that? Conan accidenlty the only one who can switch with Ayumi.

I don't really mind them.

As far as I'm concerned:
At best, they are supposed to be disliked.
At worst, they are a poor attempt for a comic relief.

I don't find them funny, but they don't Genta doesn't annoy me as much as in the start (perhaps I just got used to him).
The biggest flaw in them is that their characters are depending too much on one specific "attribute"
Genta - food
Mitsu - being nerdy
Ayumi - trying to be cute

Now at least, it is toned down a bit.
I don't mind child characters (anime, books, etc.) and most of them have a certain charm to their characters, I don't feel the same about the DB. But then again, perhaps it's because the DB are more close to what real bratty children behave like. Many times in fiction, a child character has some traits or personality that grown-ups can also relate to. Thinking about my annoying cousins when they were at the DB's age, they were a bit like that.
