Explanation:
It's still animated of course. Conan is played by a little kid, Shinichi is played by a teenager, etc.
It's like, Detective Conan is a "live action" series played by "real people", but it's all animated. (the idea is basically from those pages from MK)
And obviously, some of the actors have very different personalities from the characters they play.

And what's the best plot?
During the filming of one of the episodes, one of the crew dies, and the culprit is one of the crew, so the actors of Shinichi/Kaito, Kogoro and Conan (who is more of a nuisance than help) need to use the "experience" they got from their character roles and solve the mystery.

...and also reminds me of the train of thought I had once where Ran applied at a restaurant that Shiho owned because she was crushing hard on Shinichi who worked there...alongside clones Conan and Ai. How they were cloned? The food did it...and yet many customers still go there.

Frequent customers include Hattori, KID and BO members 

...Though I think the best thing I thought of was that Conan had an odd attraction to Shinichi. "MY Shinichi-niichan."

Inspired by Movie 4, and occurring right after Kudou was drugged by Gin:
After Shinichi is hit with the baseball bat, he suffers from a severe case of anterograde amnesia; the period at which he could retain newly-acquired memories is irrelevant (it could be a day or a couple of hours); or it could be twisted to the point of him usually solving a case, then forgetting all about it.
The shock of him constantly realising his shrunken form should be quite sadistically enjoyable by the audience!
